I woke up this morning, and thought I’d watch F&tWS earlier than my usual evening time slot, just to see who the “surprise episode 5 cameo” is.

Then I realized that today is only Thursday.

Anyone else have theories who this is? Here's my guess:

General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross played by William Hurt

He ties back to Captain America: Civil War and the Super Soldier Serum research from back in The Incredible Hulk. We also know that Tim Roth's Abomination will appear in the She-Hulk so I think it makes some sense to revisit those characters from probably the most forgotten MCU film. I believe his character will also appear in Black Widow in some capacity so maybe that's a thread that will be explored between BW, FATWS and future Phase 4 films.

Also, could be a fun post credits scene to potentially introduce Red Hulk

For those unaware, Marvel makes these pretty decent Marvel Legends replica helmets of a bunch of the MCU heroes, whether that be Iron Man, Black Panther, Star Lord.... etc. They make some similar pretty cool Star Wars ones too like X-Wing helmets. Anyway, I've always kind of wanted one for my bar downstairs. Saw today Game Stop had a big special with the Ant-Man helmet for only $35 and the War Machine one for only $50 today only. Anyway, that Ant-Man price finally got me to take the plunge. Oh boy, my wife will be so proud of me when that arrives on the front step soon............... not. It is worth noting Ant-Man is one of her favorite characters, so maybe that will ease things over....... not. Man, my wife is such a lucky girl to marry such a nerd. In fact, I'm still not sure she is over me purchasing the authentic Jedi tunic (not approved) to go along with my Disney Parks authentic jedi lightsaber (I actually did get approval for this one).

Hey, at least you guys seem to appreciate my nerdom, so there is that.
I am right there with you. I have a running list of ones I want to add to my "Nerd Collectables" display

Marvels:
Iron Man helmet
Infinity Gauntlet
Thor's Hammer

Star Wars:
Mandalorian helmet
Yoda's Lightsaber

Other:
Halo Master Chief helmet
Dragonballs (if you know you know)

Sigh..... Some day

While the Legends stuff is fun and nice-enough for more budget collectors like myself, I'd be lying if I didn't say my real dream would be to own a lot of the cool stuff Hot Toys makes, especially the life-size stuff:

I can't imagine owning one of those life-size Iron Man suits or a life-size Boba Fett, and having it in my basement /eggplantemoji

On the flip side, I both really love and like my wife so........ you know.........

FWIW, It’s been said that this “mystery cameo” character has never before appeared in the MCU, comics only.

That cuts it down a decent bit.

I'm reminded of the Paul Bettany "mystery actor" that he teased would appear in the WandaVision finale and it turned out to be himself, so I'm tempering my expectations for this reveal.

That was Bettany being...whimsical. To counter it, we have the surprise appearance at the end of The Mandalorian S2.

That said, I don’t really have any expectations. I’ll just wait cheerfully and watch with interest.

I depend on nerds to pay my bills :)

Odd enough when I started designing nerd swag I lost the desire to collect any of it, I just need great photos of everything I work on and it kills that itch to collect stuff.

I think they've done fine on that. The Flag Smashers got used to having more power and agency in the post snap world. When everybody returned, they have been shuffled off into camps by the GRC and put back into their boxes. I don't think there is much more to it than that.

As to how they got hooked up with the Power Broker, well they can't really tell us that because it would ruin one of the central mysteries of the show.

I don't mean to be weird about this but this is one of those cultural things that I don't get some of the criticism's I've seen of it. It's like it's being held to a higher standard than other things and I don't know why.
You really like it and prefer it over WandaVision and others are the opposite. That's fine, as everyone's taste is different. Almost nobody is saying FaTWS is bad.

With Falcon and Winter Soldier, one of my biggest gripes so far has been what appears to most like some shoddy editing in the series, messing pretty greatly with the flow at times, when there has in fact clearly been a completely removed storyline within the series if you look a bit closer. New Rockstars, a youtube channel who puts out some of my favorite Easter Egg videos on each episode, has also picked up on this too and talked about it. They've noted the clues to this in multiple videos of theirs, and they say they are going to eventually put out an entire video dedicated to this missing storyline.

Anyway, what I'm referring to is clearly a missing storyline about some type of pandemic disease, likely removed due to it being too similar to the current COVID-19 crisis we've been going through. Some of the hints have been the vaccines in the trucks all the characters fought on top of a few episodes back, as well as anything related to the weirdly edited Mama Donya stuff. For example, there was the weird scene Karli goes to visit her in the hospital, as well as the weirdly edited off camera description by Nagel of her having Tuberculosis. I mean, do we really buy the fact that she contracted Tuberculosis in an overcrowded refugee camp?? Seems weird, and why would Karli call back to the person she just stole a bunch of serum from to see if he could help with Tuberculosis??? None of that stuff makes even remote sense. I mean, who even is this lady? She clearly is important to these people, but there are major gaping holes in her backstory.

With all that said, I'm just guessing this missing storyline likely has been removed due to being too similar to COVID-19, but it is also possible they ran into issues due to the pandemic with schedules and shooting in order to include it. It could be some of both. Also, while we've known all these MCU series will be fairly short on episodes, I'd be curious to know if this particular series was always intended to be only 6 episodes. Perhaps this missing storyline forced the series to remove an episode or two when it was all completely removed. I'm sure time will turn up more clues, and I'm curious to see what New Rockstars digs up. Regardless, I'm sure I'm not the only one on here who feels like something has clearly been missing so far in this series and clearly messing with the flow, even if you haven't been able to put your finger on it.

Here is the New Rockstars video I talked about above piecing through what we've seen so far to find all the clues to this big missing storyline. Based on the clues he found, the entire plot of Falcon and the Winter Soldier likely was DRASTICALLY shifted at some point through editing and reshoots to look quite different than it was originally intended. Of note, this was released prior to today's episode, so I'm not sure yet how today's episode changes anything in there.

I don't have a problem with people's preferences. What I have a problem is with people saying they don't understand the motivations of the Flag Smashers and dragging the show for it, because that has been explained within the show.

To say it another way, don't get worked up by hype statements.

I watched the show and the cameo was of a character I'd never heard of to be honest. Pretty exciting actor though playing the part.

Reading into the cameo. This has a lot of implications on Phase 4.

Major Spoilers below for unreleased MCU content:
Apparently Julia Louis-Dreyfus' character was supposed to originally show up in Black Widow, which would have given this cameo a lot more punch. Instead we're left wondering "why the **** is she here?!" We'll probably know more this summer as to what her intentions are, but by all accounts they seem to be gathering together the Thunderbolts in the MCU!
