You know how there are method actors...?

I call this one the "George Clooney."

That is...

George Clooney always plays a suave and wiseass "handsome devil" who thinks he can talk his way out of anything and is always two steps ahead of the competition.

Sort of like... George Clooney.

Went to go see an afternoon showing of Deadpool & Wolverine. It was alright.

Reynolds and Jackman’s chemistry carried a lot of the film, but the actual execution of the film left a lot to be desired. The ultra-violence felt like violence for the sake of violence, and the emotional core of the first two films that actually made me care about Wade Wilson/Deadpool as a character was missing from this one.

I keep seeing people saying this movie saved the MCU but I felt like it just continued to display its weaknesses post-Endgame. Too much focus on the spectacle and the comedy, and not enough focus on the drama.

Always appreciate folks sharing their thoughts/perspective.

I respectfully disagree with a few points. The MCU has always focused on spectable and comedy. It's interwoven into all of their films dating back to Iron Man in 2008 which was very much filled with both. IMHO, the only post-Endgame project that took this way too far was Thor Love & Thunder.

The MCU's first Rated R film was supposed to be violent for the sake of violence. And it actually plays into the theme and comedy of the movie - 2 guys that literally heal from EVERY wound and basically cannot die - every Wolverine and Deadpool film better have a metric sh*t-ton of blood and gore else it wouldn't make any sense.

The emotional core of the film was actually centered on Logan/Wolverine and the nostalgia of the X-Men franchise and Fox films, with this film providing a "good-bye" (send off) to that Wolverine and welcoming him into the MCU. The film didn't save the MCU; it's goal was to save the "Fox multiverse". And Wade's struggle was literally just that - what is his emotional core and why does he even matter? Does he matter? And to who?

The ending fight sequence and scene where they are together - with the music over top - goodness, I get chills even thinking about it. THAT was a proper summer blockbuster ending. MCU - please pump that level of spectacle into my veins every single time!

As for the plot? I don't think the audience is supposed to worry too much about the plot and craziness and ambiguity of the "multiverse" because it's an impossible concept to put on film in a way that doesn't create 3 million plot holes and paradoxes. I 'think' the MCU was making fun of themselves with this plot...

Just my 2 cents :)

I don't disagree. It was definitely a film that needed to be seen with a crowd and without spoilers, and knowing all the big cameo surprises ahead of time soured the experience for me. It is my fault, though. I should have made more of an effort to see it opening weekend if I cared all that much. :D

Looks pretty good really.

Can someone explain how this one fits into the MCU? I've fallen away the last couple years to keeping track of this stuff. This looks really good though.

It seems like a stand alone. The introduction of Sentry could be a bigger deal, but I havent seen much about where they plan to take him from this. Marvels grand plans have taken quite a hit lately.

It's mostly a mix of characters from the Black Widow movie and Falcon and Winter Soldier series.

Doesn’t seem to be a standalone. It seems to expands the story of Bucky, John Walker, etc. (tying it to FATWS and the upcoming Captain America 4), and expands the story of Yelena and her arc (along with her Dad), which is exciting because Pugh is fantastic as a Widow. I assume Zemo is sneakily a part of this as well (i.e. this “team” of anti-heros where the folks pulling the strings - including Julia LD’s character - have all sorts of shady and conflicting motives). It looks fun! Will be nice see a few of these upcoming projects that are more ‘grounded’ and not based on the multiverse.

Yeah, maybe. He's like 90 though. I hope it's better than I think it will be I guess.

William Hurt was getting up there too. Luckily for a Ross character he doesnt have to do actiony type things.
