Marial Shayok Commits to ISU

Not sure what the excitement is about. Under 9 ppg and 33% from beyond the arc is underwhelming and not what final four teams are built on.

Hopefully our offense brings out something in his game but right now I am containing my excitement. Not to mention this helps zero for the uocoming season which I am most concerned about

You have to dig a little deeper. Your analysis is lacking.

People that aren't that familiar with how to apply basketball stats, will think this is an underwhelming get.

I figured this was just a matter of time but good to hear it confirmed!. Think he can be very good in ISU's system.

I think Shayok could be a real stud for us. I like that he sits a year. This gives him time to adjust to ISU and the team. He should be ready to go right from game one 2018.

I see Shayok as a mismatch guy. He has great size and is really long.

Have you ever watched Virginia play? They play sloooooooow. I'm not sure how many less possessions they get a game than ISU but I'm guessing significantly less.

The kid looks incredibly athletic and he nearly averaged double figures in the ACC playing in one the slowest paced systems I've ever seen.

Close to 10 ppg playing 20 min a game for a team that doesn't score much transferring to a team that may give him 30 minutes per game in a much more uptempo offense could easily translate to 15 ppg. But I won't fill up your half empty glass too full.

Very good pickup. Not sure how people are complaining about this? Should be a good player and we still have 3 scholarships left to help out with this year.

Yeah, if you adjust for faster paced offense and another year of development, 12-14 ppg isn't a stretch. That's the scoring of Matt Thomas last year, with better defense.

Good size, and looks very strong. Little guys won't be able to guard him due to his strength, and big guys will struggle with his quickness.

Nice. Not a home run pickup but a solid double.
Should be a solid glue, do it all guy...fits a big need for after this following year.

Agreed. He probably won't lead us in scoring but he can go get us double digit points and play some D.

When I watched Virginia this year, this kid was very impressive. It's too bad he played on such a horrible offense. This is a home run pick up. He could easily average 15-16 ppg at ISU with around 6 rebounds a game.

Have any of you ever watched Virginia play? Ever? They are one of if not the slowest offensive teams in all of P5. Shayok was just never a good fit for Virginia. There are a ton of Hoo fans on their forum who wish he had stayed and didnt want him to leave really. Shayok has a great looking shot and can play D. Sometimes a change of venue is just what the DR. Ordered.

We could do a lot worse than grabbing a 6th man from a team who was a top 10 team past 3 years and averaged 9ppg on a team that avg like 60pts a game.

His advanced numbers aren't great for a 2 for 1 guy, but his experience will be a nice. P5 starters are good additions.

No kidding, Virginia leader in PPG was 12.7 in 32 minutes. Matt Thomas was our fourth leading scorer at 12.3 PPG in 30 minutes. Shayok will up his PPG at least to MTs numbers in our system, plus you have to like the defensive mindset he's likely to bring from UVa

Advanced statistics don't factor in whether or not a player is comfortable playing in that type of system. Just by playing in a more free flowing offense Shayok's number could increase significantly compared to equal playing minutes in UVA's slow tempo grind you out style of play. It really takes a special player to thrive in systems like UVA and WI.
