Duh!
This. Even in his better years, there is a strong case to be made that the offense underperformed the talent on the roster.
I’d say overachieved in general And it wasn’t all the defense. We finally had NFL talent on the roster and people act like being one of the winningest program in the league the last few years was underachieving. All the P5 teams we’ve faced had as much or more talent than us, we didn’t have an advantage in that area.

It was time for a change, but this is a very difficult time in the program. Careful what you wish for, change doesn’t guarantee success. It’s extremely hard to win here. I am hoping the program moves forward and gets stronger from here. I am struggling with how callus and dismissive some are around here.

Best wishes to Manning and Andrews and thank you for your commitment to ISU.

Hopefully this means we have seen the last of throwing a < 3 yard pass on every 3rd and long. If your offensive game plan is praying for a miracle play by your receiver on every long 3rd down, then you have failed at your job.

If somehow the best call he could make to give us the best chance of success was a 2 yard pass on 3rd and 15 it just means our offense was in shambles anyway. And he was responsible for the offense.

I don't see that at all. Their offensive efficiency last year was top 25. The year prior it was top 15. To me the biggest issue has been turnovers at bad times and special teams miscues. Also some of their in 21 you can put on the defense. They gave up a ton of points in some of their losses.

2018- 49th in offensive efficiency
2019 - 31st
2020- 15th
2021- 23rd

I don't see how that is under performing as an offense at Iowa State. I would imagine they have never had an offense as good as the prior two years.

This year was in the 80s but it wasn't that surprising to me. New QB starting for the first time. Lost NFL RB and TEs and OL was an issue and dealt with alot of injuries at RB. Good special teams and WRs not dropping passes this team would have won a few more games.

I was going to read all that, but I false started.

Then I couldn't decide how I was going to read it and got a penalty for delaying my response.

How do you set up the shotgun run on 4th and 2 if you run a play past the sticks on 3rd?

Devils advocate here but what plays are good on 3rd and long consistently, short pass plays are like running draws in the same situation. Better than throwing a pick with a qb that tends to throw them.

People need to remember Campbell is a conservative coach by nature so those calls didn’t surprise me at all.

The short throws on 3rd down sucked but those weren’t the only routes on the field. Those were the ones Dekkers felt were available.

What do you consider consistent? The best team in the nation at converting any third down was washington at 56.21% (stats only for games between 2 FBS teams). Once you get below the top 8 you arent even above 50%.

But you need plays that give you a legitimate chance at picking up the 1st down. The fact you are in 3rd and long in the fist place means you already have a challenge ahead of you. If you are passing you need to throw it passed the line to gain.

At the very least you can't run the same play every 3rd and long. Throw 3 yard to the left side of the field. Instantly hit and downed. Time to punt or shank a field goal.
