Nah, we won’t be able to afford or attract more than one quality transfer guard

It’s a case in which a high schooler committed when we had no one in the class, and now we have two other 6’3” guards. One pg and a combo. Someone wasn’t going to play

He can likely get paid more when someone is desperate this spring, or from going to the MAC and playing early
I disagree. Not about having 3 FR guards and one not playing, but more about the overall decision. If you go into the season with an injury prone Lipsey, Heise and 3 TRFR, that’s a recipe for disaster. Gotta get a little more experience.

We were already targeting a transfer guard this spring. That was true for months, before Moore even committed. We were never going to replace two high usage guards with only freshmen, and counting on Heise to make a jump

The difference is having two other similar freshmen join him in the class, and perhaps Moore’s willingness to start off his career not seeing time.

I bet we still only bring in one transfer guard.

Maybe if these players want to be treated and paid like adults they should learn what making a commitment means. This leaves us in a bad spot now for replacing Tamin 12 months from now unless he can find a pg in the portal.
You realize the staff probably encouraged him to decommit, right?

So which one is it? You originally wrote "Good riddance" which makes you think that he wasn't any good to start with, but now he's an indispensable piece of the future for our program? Make up your f*cking mind.

This is why people point and laugh and make fun of you; because you post moronic bullsh!t. Stop posting like a moron and people will stop pointing and laughing at you.

No reason to even recruit high schools kids anymore if they can't play as a freshman. Just a waste of a roster spot.

What?

We can’t afford a full roster of transfers, let alone transfers of starting quality

Even if we could, there are only so many minutes and volume to offer

Freshmen are the best way to get upside, cheaply. And since they’re a crapshoot, you bring in 3-6 to your core rotation of sophomore to seniors

Hit on just one, and you got better without much salary cap pressure

Hit on two, and it’s a season changer for minimal cap space

Maybe, maybe not. I could see them getting two. Or one and a swing G/F.

In the era of college athletic free agency, players who don’t play transfer. The Demarion Watson types are extremely rare today. Kids who don’t play much but stick around. This kid was likely not seeing the court for a couple years, so this makes sense not only from a staff point of view , but from Moore’s point of view also. He can now go somewhere else where he could actually see playing time and develop much faster.

Well with Toure and Batemon coming in and us looking for guards in the portal. He’d have to wait awhile
Don't think it gets a lot more complicated than that, afaik Toure really only came onto the scene after Moore had committed and he's been playing really well at about the highest level you can as a HS recruit. Who knows, a good freshman year could have Moore follow a Nunn type path where he ends up at this level anyway.

If we could afford it, without pissing off a returning guy, we would have regardless of Moore

It’s not in the cards. Anyone worth grabbing is too much $ and would make it too crowded for guys staying at a discount

I always wondered about this one just like like Pierce last year it's a lottery ticket if it sticks but in this day and age someone willing to ride the bench for a year or two will be rare. Hopefully he blows up and we can get him back to Ames in a few seasons.
