Luke Combs at JTS

Wife and I are still pissed, in 2017 his first single had just become a hit and he was starting to get some buzz. Wooly's in downtown announced he was coming, we lucked out into buying tickets before it sold out. This was going to be absolutely nuts to watch him play at Wooly's. A month before the show the promoter moved it to 7 Flags Event Center or whatever it is called now to sell more tickets. That place is one of the worst concert venues in the area. We sold our tickets immediately. That Wooly's show would have been unreal.
I have a buddy who always told the story of how he went to see an up and coming band at Hunky Dory's (then The Fillmore) and he was shocked that the place was practically empty. It almost felt like a show just for him and a couple dozen of his closest friends.

The band? U2.

I just looked it up and that was 45 years - almost to the day - before this projected JTS stadium date.

With this being April 11, does that mean Cy's House is the next week? I hope not, I have a wedding.

I know it's been said, but man April 11 is risky for weather in Iowa. Even if it's a nice day, it's gonna be damn cold once the sun goes down
Looks like it was a balmy 48 degrees in the evening on April 11th this year, 2 years ago it was 68 though.

That time of the year in Iowa you can have everything from sunny and 70 to cold and rain to even a late snowstorm. Definitely rolling the dice on the weather on that date.

two to four concerts per year or two to four stadium concerts per year? Would be great to get stuff at Hilton again, they just kinda gave up once Des Moines got Wells Fargo.
How many artists can sell out stadiums these days? I'm old and don't really know the answer to that. I assume U2 isn't coming back to Ames any time soon.

Yeah, that date is a gamble for weather in Iowa. Figured it would be late May.

The more concerts the better.
Just keep your fingers crossed that the grass lots aren't soggy/get shut down.

Wonder what is the profit for ISU on a show like this?
Luke Combs is estimated to have made about $4.5M per show in 2024 according to google. Majority of his cut is tickets and merch I assume. Majority of Iowa States cuts will be parking and alcohol. No idea what percentage of ticket sales Iowa State would get

A better schedule, accounting for only weather and geography:

April 4 - Virginia Oklahoma
April 11 - Iowa State Tennessee
April 18 - Notre Dame Virginia
April 25 - Ohio State
May 2 - Tennessee Notre Dame
May 9 - Oklahoma Iowa State
May 16 - Lambeau

Guessing the Oct 15 pre-sale is for season ticket holders? Thought they did something like that for George Strait.

Have to think it was bidding prices for each date since they are go east west east west. Can see how Iowa State and Virginia got the two worst dates. They are also by far the two smallest stadiums

Surprised U2 only played in Ames twice. The Filmore show and ZooTV at Cyclone/Jack Trice Stadium in ‘92.
