Looking for new music

I've always been a big Collective Soul fan. Also Evans Blue has a couple of prett good albums. TrustCompany is another one you don't hear much about but they are pretty good. My favorite right now has to be Fair to Midland. And don't forget The Killers, Papa Roach and Nickelback.

Suliversun Pickups are the best thing I've heard in the last two years. I saw them at Coachella last year and I can't stop listening to them.

I've been listening to a lot of Panic! at the Disco lately. Someone mentioned Angels and Airwaves, they're pretty good. It was formed by a member of Blink 182.

Ever listen to Cake? They've got a good sound.

I will second the previous mentions of Social Distortion (decades of excellent punk - not screamy or whiny or annoying) and Velvet Revolver (some of the few quality "new" rock).

As much as I HATED Creed, Alterbridge's new cd is solid.

I would be stupid not to mention Pearl Jam (old, new, live bootlegs, and everything in between) as they are my all-time favorite. I met the lead guitarist before a show in Denver and then chatted with him and the rhythym guitartist together during Tom Petty's set (PJ opened for a few Petty shows that summer)!!!

No man! I'm serious! I think it was an interview with Murphy, Walters or Fales (can't recall)... trust me, I was as shocked as the next guy when this super serious, stoic, no-nonsense, kick-your-*** new coach being interviewed said "ABBA" when asked about music....

I'm pretty sure I heard that too.

I'm trying to think of more music... Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks... José González... The Moldy Peaches are hilarious... The Cribs are freaking fantastic... Amos Lee... The Whitest Boy Alive... Eagles of Death Metal... can't ever go wrong with Beck...

-Bullet For My Valentine- The Poison (I think this album is better then their newest one...these guys are heavily influenced by Metallica, Testament, and Iron Maiden)
-Damageplan

I've been meaning to check these guys out. Heard a couple songs and then when I start looking for music I always forget. Thanks. And yes, we do seem to have similar taste.

Pearl Jam and Petty are two of my fav bands/artists. If you like either you should check out Eddie Vedder singing "The Waiting" with Petty and the Heartbreakers on youtube

Maybe it was an example of Gene's wicked sarcasm. One can only hope...

I picked up the Live at The Gorge 05/06 set. What you mentioned about Pearl Jam opening for Tom Petty explains the references to Tom during the show. I really enjoyed listening to the concerts (There are 3 concerts in the box set). I was pleasantly surprised by their version of Baba O'Riley. I think I'll listen to that right now.

Stephen Malkmus = Pavement. Slanted and Enchanted is one of my faves....

Collective Soul is one of those bands that I just haven't given enough credit to - I love their stuff, but I think I just have a couple of their MP3s that I downloaded while at ISU. To me Papa Roach is kind of hit and miss, and I kind of liked Nickelback's early stuff, but since then I'm kind of like "whatever" on them. Not criticizing your like of them, just not really my cup-o-tea.

Don't know much about Social Distortion, but with my limited experience on them in GH3, I liked "Story Of My Life" and I'm gonna have to look into them more.

And of course Velvet Revolver's going to be good - consider its' roots - the remnants of Stone Temple Pilots as well as having Slash play the lead guitar. Just like Audioslave (while they were still a band) - the remnants of Soundgarden and Rage Against the Machine (especially since Tom Morello was the guitarist). Super bands don't always work, but when you're putting them together from the pieces that Velvet Revolver and Audioslave did, it was just going to be.

I'll second this one. It's not often that I find an album where I love every song. Everyone should check out Carnavas. (BTW, it's Silversun Pickups  ).

Don't know if they have been said... plumb, flyleaf, emery, the afters, evanescence, skillet.

If you're referring to Christian bands, Evanescence denies that they are a Christian band, although their music definitely has spiritual overtones to it.

Plumb is good, kind of a cross between Evanescence and Garbage. Skillet is kind of the Christian version of Nine Inch Nails, another band that I have in my MP3 player. Also like The Afters and Emery as well, although I'm not nearly as knowledgeable about them.

They did "The Waiting" together at the Denver show I was at. Of course, I bought the bootleg to the show so I have my own copy to remember it by.

I listen to a lot of different stuff that may give you some suggestions. From my facebook profile:

Latest faves are:, Feist, Band of Horses, Black Moth Super Rainbow, Joe Purdy, Arcade Fire, Cross Canadian Ragweed, JJ Grey and Mofro, Sarah Benck and the Robbers, My Bloody Valentine, Dr. Dog, Amy Winehouse, The New Pornographers, Robert Bradley's Blackwater Surprise. I listen to almost everything (over 800 CDs and 150 LPs), but perpetual favorites have been:, Bob Marley, The Black Keys, Neko Case, David Bowie, Neil Young, Wilco, Roger Clyne & the Peacemakers, Robert Randolph and the Family Band, Johnny Cash, Flaming Lips, Green Day, O.A.R., John Butler Trio, Ryan Adams, Ben Harper, The Band, Nick Drake, White Stripes, Nickel Creek, Ray Charles, Bob Dylan, The Beatles, The Smashing Pumpkins

I also notice a ton of people talking about Rilo Kiley, which has reminded me to get tickets to their 2-day stint in Omaha.

I'm surprised more people aren't Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers fans (formerly Refreshments). Their live shows are awesome!

Sarah Benck and the Robbers are a local Omaha group that is starting to tour the midwest occasionally, this girl can sing!
