Long John's Ames - Closed

Can we somehow shoehorn this thread into the Big 12 expansion discussion?

I miss that Mega Thread. LJS could breathe new life into it

“We are disappointed to learn of the Long John Silver’s decision to close their Ames locationâ€￾ Pollard said. “We believe the university should have the sole right and responsibility to determine any student’s participation in eating greasy fast food while at Iowa State University.â€￾

So, horrible start to my day today. Driving by Long John's in Ames and it says it's closed for good on the sign. Now where am I going to go to get my week's worth of calories in one meal?? :frown:

I do have to say that the service, at least at the one in Ames, was pretty bad. Average wait time of 15 minutes even if you were the only one there.
Red Lobster is also gradually folding.

That place usually looks relatively busy when I happen to drive past it.

On another Ames restaurant note, looks like Fighting Burrito, Chipotle, and Panchero's are all still successful, even when Qdoba couldn't make it work with the same number of Mexican fast-casual a couple years ago.

I think Qdoba closely was solely because of a crappy location. You couldn't get in and out of there without it being a major ordeal. Their soup was maybe my favorite fast food item in Ames.

Can't say I'm too surprised by this, and won't be surprised to see other locations close either. There is really no reason to go to LJS other than if your a big hush puppy guy. Ate there once and that was it. You can get much better fish for a similar price at Culvers. Wonder if something else will move in there?

My intestines are unwinding as we speak. A sad day. I was always drawn to a Long Johns ever few years to remind myself why I didn't go there. So good and yet so bad.

Chick-fil-a? It's a pretty good location.

The Mexican gumbo? Un freaking believable. My favorite soup in Ames is Hickory Park French onion but man was that Qdoba stuff good.

Heard they want to go in front of Walmart where the old Ames rental place is, but are being held up until the city and businesses in that area decide where the new intersection is going and whether there will be a median in that area of South Duff.

There was a girl at my old job who used to announce to me whenever she was going to LJS or B-Bops for lunch, because both of those would end up with her in the bathroom for the rest of the afternoon. I was gone one day, and she had to ask another female coworker to go grab her some clean pants. :-/

Thats fantastic
