Isn’t that what you want out of an assistant? If you’re assistants are sticking around for a decade then your program probably isn’t very successful.

I mean it probably isn't a great thing if your lead assistant who is going to hit the recruiting trail running is planning to leave within a couple of years. Who knows it could possibly be a temporary living situation. He and his wife both clearly have successful careers. If we are hanging banners and he leaves for a better job offer thats great. I just hope he doesn't have one foot out the door from the jump regardless.

FWIW, those programs have had A LOT of eyeballs on them the last few years.
I was surprised Okie State was allowed to play in the tourney.

The NCAA scrutiny is unrelated, though. There is a long history of hiring family/coaches to pull recruits.

I’m betting his contract has a condo included for in-season and practice periods. I don’t know how much contact he can have with players now, but he may be able to do most of his work and recruiting from CF at the moment. I doubt he’s driving back and fourth literally every single day.

Hopefully this commuting thing is just short term. If the season starts and he is still commuting, I give this about 1 year tops.

He would have the money to have 2 houses. But maybe this is temporary while his kids are at UNI?

I know plenty of people who live wherever and (used to) fly into Washington, DC on Monday and work from there throughout most of the week, heading home on Thursday or Friday afternoon/evening.

Seems bizarre to Iowans, but it wasn't that unusual on the East Coast before COVID became a thing.

Debbie downer alert but it doesn't exactly sound like this is a long-term plan for Kyle Green. Kids and wife still living in Cedar Falls and he is commuting an hour and a half every day? Seems he wants to be a head coach and soon. Top assistant for a Big 12 school just another feather in his cap to add to his resume. Hope I'm wrong and he and TJ tear it up for the next decade plus.
Ideally the program is successful enough soon to have an assistant get the nod for a HC job. Green's decade+ experience may mean it'll happen sooner than later either way though.

It don't think anyone is commenting on the commute any more than it's just a weird deal. I think college coaches are pretty notorious for working some insanely long hours. Just trying to figure out how 3 hours on the road each day works into that.
I’d be surprised if he doesn’t get an apartment or condo, or have somewhere he can crash at in Ames.

Because there’s probably a 0% chance he’s going to be driving from Ames to CF and back every single day..
