KU HC David Beaty has been fired

Sports radio here in KC make it seem like a done deal already as well.

Meanwhile, KU fans still have no idea what they call that oblong ball thingy.

I just don’t understand this.
Say what you want about Miles, but he’s still a well known name in college football.
What can Kansas offer they makes him want to coach there?
No facilities (I know there are plans)
No fan support
Nothing

A challenge. You ever seen the movie, She’s All That? or Not Another Teen Movie?

Charlie Weis 2.0

I mean, they may be alike in their failure because its Kansas, but i never understood why Kansas forked out for Weis. It wasnt like he'd had a great run in his last gig.

Les actually had some success at OSU and definitely had success at LSU.

I think it'll still be a good hire for KU though, because even if it doesnt work out it'll drive interest in the program that has to be near an all time low right now. Look at our history. Chizik sucked it up here, but he brought a lot of interest in and he was part of how Jamie was able to sell people on buying record numbers of season tickets. That didnt pay off in wins during Chizik's tenure, but it has paid off down the road. If Les is Kansas's Chizik, that's a win for them, if they can then build upon it.

Miles would be Weis-ish...it'll be great. The best thing about him getting another job would be not having to hear him as an analyst. Listening to the guy you'd think he struggles to tie his shoes.

He’s a significant upgrade over Weis. His name and resume alone will jump start the donors and fan base.

If David Booth is willing to be anything like Boone, then Miles could make KU a lot better, like he did at Ok St.

I honestly don't see who they hire that will make that thing any good.

Beatty was a sacrificial lamb. Whoever was put in that position was dealing with a disaster, they had two coaches to pay and recruiting was completely destroyed. That got someone cheap to ride the crapstorm to the bottom and allow the house cleaning. They aren't good now, but there is not a cluttered structure for the next guy to deal with. I Don't know if Les is that kind of builder though. LSU has always been pictured as a solid program, OSU had had some success before and was in a good location for southern recruiting.

Snyder made his mark understanding that Kansas has probably the best JUCO scene in the US, at least midwest and plains, and he could go that route. I don't know if miles has ever not been in a decent recruiting area.

His name will draw interest, but at his age will the recruits connect and have interest in him. I would probably go mid major HC and look to see what they can build. Unless you are positive Miles can get donations for facilities.

Ok, I can understand wanting that last big paycheck but LSU was paying him over $1 million per year to do nothing.

Also, will Kansas really pay that much? Beaty was getting $1.6 million.
Les was getting paid as much for sitting on his couch!
Are we really expecting Kansas to pay $4-5 million per year?

None of this makes sense to me.

Beatty got that since they were still paying gill and Weis when he was hired. Think both were paid more annually than Beatty. Now they are cleaned up (maybe have a little left to pay Beatty) and their donations and AD budget dwarfs ours so they could easily be around 4MM with no trouble.

Coaches that were fired at a top tier program seem to never work out at their rebound school.

This.

Miles wouldn't have worked here either.

His personality and brand of football doesn't pump energy into a dead program. They'll have a heartbeat because he can pull in some recruits but ultimately it will mean they lose 24-10 instead of 35-3.

But this has little if anything to do with football. Miles isn't going to play second fiddle to Self and he (like all "big time" coaches) will demand plans for physical upgrades whatever those are; stadium, practice facilities, training facilities, etc. But at KU it's going to have to be very big and very expensive. KU will need all that money. And have to hope Miles can then also win. Like I said before, I'll take Matt Campbell.
