***OFFICIAL 2026 WEATHER THREAD***

Great timing with tens of thousands of planes descending on the state.

Yeah, timing looks to be bad. Maybe it will clear some, but as my local weather dude follow notes, it's really hard to forecast future smoke tracks.

Last year it was a month earlier for the bad bad air hit we took. Remember having to put a N95 on to go photograph some loons in June last summer.

I'm guessing there were a lot of cars sitting in parking lots with their windows cracked open to deal with the heat.

*cracked as in being down a bit to vent air not actually cracked

Related to that, sort of: I went to the LifeTime fitness on Wednesday. It was in the mid-90's. The location has a parking lot but also a ramp. I parked in the parking ramp while other people parked in the lot in the blazing sun. Got done with workout and car temp was pretty tolerable when I got in. Don't get the parking in the full sun and baking your interior to 100 plus when you don't have to. People are weirdly obsessed with getting as close to the front door as possible.

My FIL was telling us about his buddy who flew up for that from AZ - how the hell do they coordinate that many planes going to one place in such a short time? Call & reserve a landing time or something?

Maybe that’s like their sauna time as they’re driving away

Nope. A very specific procedure. Basically fly to a point and get in line as close as a half mile in trail, ATC talks and you confirm by rocking your wings. They split you to two different runways which have dots painted on them so they can land multiple aircraft at a time on the same runway. That is how general aviation makes Oshkosh the busiest airport in the world for the next week and a half. There are a number of great videos on YouTube etc. of it. Just look up Airventure FISK VFR Approach

May be an image of fish and chips and text that says 'Wisconsinites trying to get to the dive bar for their fish fries and old fashioneds @wi.yaknow'

They also use other airports to land hold up until they can fly in.
