NFL: Kansas City Chiefs Thread

At that number you'd think we would be able to keep him. Unless we have something else up our sleeves with OBJ or Hopkins.
Why keep him though? His role was filled by Toney and Moore. We don’t need a third WR of that type. Need a possession guy.

They can get a player like him in the draft. They probably do need another speed guy for jet sweeps and those types of things they like to run. They need 2-3 WR's IMO.

The Chiefs need someone like Hopkins that will be able to open up the field, because teams are keying on him and Kelsy, thereby allowing the other WR's to get more one on one coverage. We could get Hopkins for like a 3rd this year, and a 4th next year, based upon production. I know that sounds low, but if you look at what others are paying for WR's before the draft, that would not be a bad deal. Sign him for a two-year guaranteed contract and the chance to in a Super Bowl.

PFF put out a new article on landing spots for players that might be available via trade. In the DeAndre Hopkins segment they list his suitors as the Panthers, Giants and Patriots. They have Hopkins going to the Panthers. I don't see that happening. One team will have a rookie QB, one team has a QB not known for throwing and the third is probably not going to be a starter in the NFL in a year or two.

Exactly, Creed Humphrey in the 2nd round and Trey Smith in the 6th round in 2021 are both solid starters at C and RG. They drafted Niang in the 3rd round in 2020 and he's been a solid depth piece and possibly starter at RT if they put Tayler at LT.

Kansas City Chiefs All-Time Draft History | Pro-Football-Reference.com

Just look at all the hits they had in the past 3-4 years of drafts. 2022 every pick except for Kinnard appeared in 11-17 games, many of them wound up in the starting lineup. 4 of their 6 2021 picks have played 33 or 34 games, 2020 5 of the 6 have played significantly too. They are finding quality depth and even starters in the draft in rounds 4-7 even. They are basically doing what the Patriots did during Brady's prime which is drafting smart then trading or moving on from guys when they get too expensive and investing in retaining the ones they can't replace as easy.

The Chiefs have drafted very well the last few years. Nobody is questioning their ability to draft or the franchise overall.

Free agency is an entirely different deal as you have player evaluation AND contract negotiation, the latter of which rarely factors into drafts due to slotting. This is about the Chiefs (potentially) choosing the lesser player, one unproven at the position he's expected play at, while being insanely overpaid. It's the combination that makes this a significant value downgrade for a team that will always be up against the cap. It's not a SMART football move and one, without knowing all of the inside details, that's perplexing on the surface.

Seth Walder, a sports analytics writer had this to say in an ESPN article published today that discussed several topics, include "head scratching free agent signings": "OT Jawaan Taylor to the Kansas City Chiefs. Taylor is a fine pass-protector, but he's not elite. Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence's quick release made Taylor look better than he is last season. And Taylor is a weakness in the run game. If he plays left tackle, he's a downgrade from Orlando Brown Jr., but he's getting more money per year than Brown signed for in Cincinnati"

You have yet to answer my question, did you watch Brown last year playing for the Chiefs, more than a few games? Because if you did, other than the playoffs, he was not that good, in fact, Brown was the worst starter the Chief's were starting every week.

Taylor will be equal if not better than Brown, you are really doubling down on release time, most experts think that Mahomes is the best QB in the league. I trust the Chiefs and what they are doing regards to Brown and Taylor. Next year we will see if this was a horrible mistake, like you think, or neural or an upgrade for the Chiefs.
How about we let the season play out, and then comment on it after the 2023 season.

Thankfully the Chiefs are not making a move for Hopkins. Do. Not. Want. Not at anywhere near that price.

As for Bell, good value signing. I do hope the Chiefs nab LaPorta in the 3rd or 4th. Great apprentice to have Kelce mentor. Plus I would love to see Mahomes with some 3TE sets like ISU used to do.

That is also who I was wondering if they would grab at TE.

And rock with 5 TEs? That seems like a lot.

Draft Pick
Forgot about Fortson. But some of these guys are cutable if they decide they like someone in the draft. I am guessing they have expected more out of Gray than what he has done. Fortson is always injured.
