I just switched from Dish to Mediacom.. Not one complaint about Mediacom. Obviously not having the hopper/joey is stinks but I'm only paying $75 for cable/internet where as with Dish I was paying $90 just for cable alone!! Doesn't make sense to me to keep Dish especially since Mediacom will be having the Cyclone channel now..

Give it time...

I'm only a few days in but man it's great so far. Picture quality is better, and the DVR system (hopper and joeys) is just plain awesome. As a bonus I no longer have to deal with the scum at mediacom. For the life of me I can't understand why anyone with options would be a mediacom customer. I can't wait for football season.
What was your reason for going to Dish Network instead of DirecTv? I am really contemplating switching to dish from Time Warner and am weighing the options between the two services.

~ $71 Dish
~ $44 MC

I'd have to look at the actual bills to tell you what packages we have, but you'd have to at least take me to dinner to get that info.

Meh, can get both for $70 from Mediacom and I don't feel like paying up in my young career.

Dish sucks for sports compared to DirectTV. Even with all its problems, if I lived in Iowa, I'd be on Mediacom as a Cyclone fan. Don't know why fans continue to go out of their way to bash them since they are helping our program.

I beg to differ. I am an avid sports bettor....what more does dish need to fulfill your sports need? Every single night I can watch Cards/Cubs/Royals/Brewers/Yanks and any nationally televised games on ESPN or ESPN 2. Also has MLB network and live looks ins on every game Tues/Sat nights. When football and bball roll around its the sameway. Add the Gamefinder if you have Internet for free and theres no more a guy could ask for. Dont let me forget XBOX live works like a champ with Dish Net and I can watch Dish anywhere on my phone or cp.

Can u explain why direct is better? Their contracts suck and equipment is expensive. If it werent for Mediacom you guys would look real bad.

Fair enough. I'm no dish salesman so I can understand saving money for sure.

I will note that we don't have the minimum service for either, & we also have no term commitment. I would venture to guess you'd have 1, if not both, of those with your $70 scenario.

I switched to Direct tv from cox and it saved me a ton. Would be 2 years before the cable package cost would be anywhere close to the same which is the agreement signed, after that, open backup to options.

Just for all you people with kids, DISH does not have Disney Jr., Direct TV does. If you have Mcom cable and internet for $70, you are bundled with a 2-year commitment. After 12 months it will likely go to $110 and after the next 12 it will go to $150. Just got done with this deal. However, I did call today and ask about dropping cable and they said they could move me back to $110 for 12 months, about the same as I'd be paying for Mcom internet and Direct TV.

I am switching to DirectTV and CenturyLink. Just had CenturyLink installed yesterday and so far so good. We'll see how I like DTV after it is installed this weekend...

Same combo for me. I don't think you can do any better in Ames. Really happy with both.

As much as I hate MC this pkg deal might be enough to get me to switch from Dish. I'm already paying $65 for internet. (hurts my head to type that and see the reality but I'm hooked on high speed).

Had Mediacom in last years apartment and now DirectTV in my new one and DirectTV is way more expensive for way less channels.

My parents and most of my friends have direct tv, if you call in they will lower your bill. Call in every six months and threaten to cancel, they will lower the monthly fee. On top of that, a lady that does customer service there said that they can drop your bill 6 times a year (so 6 bills) if you call and say its to high. They drop it by like $12 or so. Another thing, if there is an ISU game on a weird channel you dont get, call in, order the channel, they give it to you, then after the game call back and ask for it to be cancelled because you were unsatisfied with the channel. They cancel it at no cost.

What Centurylink speed were you able to get in Ames?

We get 11 Mbps download speed. It is not earth-shattering by any measure, but it beats doing business with Mediacom. I know that we have the highest-speed internet package offered by CenturyLink for our address.

I look every so often and my address can only get 3, which is super lame, I'd switch in a heartbeat even for 11.

I wish we had a real internet competitor to mediacom. Their tv, though a ripoff, isnt any more of a ripoff than directv\dish. But there's no real competition on internet. If you can get centurylink, the speeds are usually slower. And i'm one of the few that is stuck with a no-name dsl provider (hickory tech) that charges 40-50 for 3mbit internet last time i checked.

Itd be nice if google fiber came here, or if we could get a municipal fiber option going.

Also, for those that were still grandfathered on mediacom without caps, mediacom is forcing everyone onto their 'new' internet packages that have a usage cap. The cap is something like 250gb, which yes, most people dont cross right now, but within a few years with everyone using more and more streaming video, you can bet mediacom won't increase that cap at the same level demand rises.

I come fairly close to the 350 cap I have now after moving, sucks to have to actually think about how much bandwidth you're using. It's such a joke.
