Just asked Campbell about the noise....

Here's his response. Full interview tonight on KXnO. I'll post it on the CF Pod stream too.

“You become really disappointed. You become really frustrated in the fact that it is really disrespectful to our university and it is really disrespectful to our football program. It’s why you come to a place like Iowa State, to build a true program and to lay a foundation, to build it the right way and give yourself an opportunity to win a conference championship somewhere down the line. Then when you have an opportunity to win conference championships, you give yourself an opportunity on this level to go play in Power 5 Playoffs. I think that is the reality of it. I don’t think honestly that I have thought anything of it other than that other than a sense of frustration and a sense of disappointment in comments like that. We know who we are. We know where we are going. Where we are going is we have only scratched the surface of where this football team and this football program has the ability to exist on the national football landscape.”

I just fell in love

To be honest, when I saw the thread title, I thought this was going to be about crowd noise, ha!
Thanks! That's where my mind went, so Campbell's comment (which didn't reference the tweets or the twit) just confused me. I plead (not-so) early onset senility...

Kirk has one of the most punch-able faces in all of college football. I think that is really the crux of the issue. I'm not going to spend another second thinking about that whiny buckeye homer.

Granted it's the vocal minority (on Twitter), but it's ridiculous to see Cyclone fans fanning those flames out there in the public spectrum. I truly don't understand how any fan gets the smallest taste of (mid-season) success, and rather than celebrating and scouting travel plans to bowl games ahead - I totally have - they would rather wallow in fear that our program is just a pity date for every coach on the way to the prom. Yes, our program has been subpar for decades, but we're Loyal. Forever. True.

Campbell's response to this notion is perfect. #RaiseTheStandard

Hidden in plain sight. he said somewhere, not sometime.

Am I doing CF right?

Sound to me like CMC is trying to put to bed the national opinion that Iowa State cannot become a winning program year in and year out, as well as be a place that coaches want to stay at. Does that mean he will never leave, no. But it seems to me through his comments he wants everyone to know that this is where he wants to be and has a plan, or "Process."

Believe in the Process!

This is a perfect opportunity for Campbell to stay in Ames. This is a gravy train for upper-tier recruits. They see comments like this and fall in love, just like every ISU fan out there.

At no point has he ever said he will be here forever or something along the lines of 'firmly entrenched", but he has once again stressed about building this program the right way so I tend to believe him. I just don't see Campbell using this as a job to get a better one. Seems like the staff likes it here and they see a challenge and want to stamp their legacy with the program. I don't think CMC and staff will be here forever but I do think they will be here for a while.

Listen, I think Campbell leaves...at some point, but this quote is awesome. I hope he builds ISU to a point where success can be sustained by whoever follows him.

This is as much of a response to KH as it is to Randy Peterson. That article in this morning's paper was classic Randy. I listen to KXNO every morning and evening to and from work but anytime Randy comes on, I have to change the station. The guy needs to move on from The Register and let someone else respectable take his place for the Cyclones..

Great response, but lets be honest, coaches are kings of the "firmly entrenched" stuff.
And the media guys are kings of stating opinions as facts when it fits their narratives or increases hits.

I don’t think he went the firmly entrenched route, he’s smarter than that, but more as he’s alluding to the media guys, particularly the local ones, to STFU while he’s trying to do his job and the fans trying to enjoy the year.
