Just asked Campbell about the noise....

Two things:

One, regardless of what happens in the future, it's very clear that Campbell has given Iowa State everything he has. Admirable for sure.

Two, I think it's telling how Campbell didn't choose to load up on a bunch of JUCO guys to try and get a quick turn around while looking for another job with one eye. Hell, look who he's bringing in on recruiting vists-- 2020 recruits?? Getting commitments from HS sophomores? These guys won't be starting a Cyclone game for 5 years yet! Why bother if you have one foot out the door?

I mean, RP is right, in that we do need to enjoy HCMC while he's here. Do everything we can to hold on to him. But in the end, if his heart is elsewhere, we don't have the financial resources to compete against the blue bloods. But-- and I've stated this many times previously-- I am much happier losing a coach who was really good, than I am firing a coach who was really bad.

I am cautiously optimistic that HCMC plans to stick around and build us up a bit.
Yeah sure he is right. We should enjoy him while he is here. But the unspoken context that its gonna be a short time to enjoy that is what is bull ****. Or as coach put it, disrespectful. Disrespectful to the players, to the current momentum of this team, to coach himself, and to the program as a whole.

I guess the point of the people upset with RP is that he is closer to the team. Kirk said it but who cares he is a national guy with no real connection or influence to the team, but we expect RP do be above that crap.

Didn't Coach Campbell and staff have some sessions with the team where they talked about teams and programs going through ups and downs? Part of the plan is building a championship mindset and realizing that this could be our time? I think some of our fan base and beat reporters might need to take that class. I think that Coach Campbell leaves when he thinks he reached the pinnacle of possibility in Ames. We're at the beginning of that journey now, no where near the end. He will want to see one class completely through. The only wild card is if his wife hates it here, but if she likes it he's our version of Tom Osborn only with a few more National Championships.

Read a Cyclone Insider article by Peterson this morning titled, "Note to Fans Concerned about Campbell's Iowa State Future: Buy a Ticket". I would have thought he learned to just leave that noise out of the conversation. The majority of the article is about this being the biggest game since the Colorado '05 game. Which I disagree with as well, but no big deal. The title doesn't even refer to the primary topic of the article. It is like he tried to squeeze two topics into one article. The 1st being another Campbell might leave, and the second about the game being big. Why doesn't he just write about the game and leave the Campbell noise out of it? I don't get it. BTW CF got an awesome name drop by an angry reader in the comments, lol.

I get it, money talks. I also get the allure of wanting to coach at a prestigious school. However, just look anecdotally at how that works out for people. I'll bet you Mike Riley misses Oregon State. I'll bet you Charlie Strong wishes he'd had stayed at Louisville. People are already calling for Harbaugh's head. Willie Taggart is on the hot seat after a year and a half. Florida fans are about sick of Jim McElwain. Butch Jones is on the verge of being fired. Long-story-short, moving on to a new, high profile school rarely seems to work out.

This is a great post. At this point in time there are very few high profile jobs that CMC would be interested in next year. Clearly he is a midwest guy so I don't look for him to jump to the south or west coast. CMC is also very smart. I don't see him going to the train wreck that Nebraska is, because they will not be patient with him at all after the last 3 chuckleheads that they have hired. Ames is a nice town for your family to grow up, you are making pretty good money, with a lot of incentives to win games, which he might not get in a contract with a school that expects 8-9 wins every year. The Big 12 TV contract is not as good as the B10 one, but it still gets ISU to the point it can pay Campbell fairly well. JP is probably going to sweeten the pot a little at the end of the year too.

Taggart just left USF -- this is his first year in Eugene.

4-4 in his first season of a rebuild and they are already dissatisfied.

Everyone is looking for that magic bullet that sees results in year 1. How the heck can you base a long term assessment of a coach on year 1? Year 1 is nearly all the old coach's players, your success with them may purely be a new frame of reference that the players react to. Look to years 2-4 to see if you have a good one. Heck, do we know if Harbaugh at Michigan will succeed??? He tends to overstay his welcome by years 4-5.

As for keeping Campbell, he will stay as long as he is challenged...that could be next year...that could be 10 years...and if he is successful, bigger schools will continue to look at him because he is something that they don't have. I certainly am enjoying the heck out this year so far!

At no point has he ever said he will be here forever or something along the lines of 'firmly entrenched", but he has once again stressed about building this program the right way so I tend to believe him. I just don't see Campbell using this as a job to get a better one. Seems like the staff likes it here and they see a challenge and want to stamp their legacy with the program. I don't think CMC and staff will be here forever but I do think they will be here for a while.
#STAMP THEIR LEGACY. I love that line!

The fact Peterson and Hines are the "voice" of the Cyclones in the legacy media annoys me greatly. I would never want CW or JS to leave CF, but I could only imagine the coverage from the Register and Tribune would be way better if those two were in there.

I am glad that CF is more-and-more the source of content for our fan base, however. I could only imagine how difficult it would be to be a Cyclone fan in the olden days with the Register was always taking shots at them and over-covering Iowa, for one, and it would be impossible to be devoted at a distance like I am, and so many others of us around the country.

I don't even care about the Iowa coverage. Sure cover both schools as the main newspaper. But be smart enough to not contradict yourself like this. Like @ArgentCy said, he probably doesn't even realize he's doing it.

This season, I've really enjoyed the post game on the BUS almost as much as the coverage here in CF. So much more information that puts the Register to shame on their next day paper coverage. And, always interesting to hear CW's reaction to certain Cyclone regulars on the call in show...
