Jurassic World (June 2015)

Speaking of bad ideas, let's resurrect some ocean carnivores that can jump 50 feet out of the water - on an island - with a short little electric fence around their paddock. Nah, they'll never get out.

Wish he hadn't switched to writing them in the present tense after the first two. I enjoyed the original, and the sequel was decent, but I can't stand reading books written in the present tense (or first person). Don't know why...I just find those styles very annoying!

That said, are there any plans to make a DECENT movie out of MEG?

I'm not sure about the hybrid dinosaurs and the writing in the trailer seemed pretty meh, but I will definitely watch this when it comes out...on netflix.

Half of the wonder of the movies has been the sheer size & scope. You may be shortchanging yourself if you only see it on a small screen. Kind of like "Titanic", or "Avatar" - they really needed to be seen in theaters first. Just my opinion, though. :)

Looks like a complete rehash of the original in content, characterization, and plot. I'll go--on a Sunday morning a few months after release--but this looks like a CGI a thon without any of the novelty, care, wonder, and terror of the first.

I went to JP when I was 5. In the theater. It *was* ******* real. I had nightmares for a decade after that lovely experience. Nothing is going to match that.

Does anyone know if this is a reboot of JP or a sequel?

Seems like a sequel would be hard to sell. "No seriously guys this time we won't let them eat half of California"

Took my boys to the original when it first came out. When the raptor jumped up after Lexi's dangling foot when they're crawling through the ducting at the end, EVERY person in that theater jumped...

My favorite memories were when Alan and Ellie see their first dinosaurs, and when Alan is laying with his head on the side of the trike, moving up and down as she breathed. The sheer wonder...

And back in '93, that was the most AMAZING technology. Younger folks who grew up with CGI have no idea how special it was for us seeing it...really, for the first time.

I grew up with Ray Harryhausen FX. Fun, but not very realistic. :)

Might have some similarities with the original, but in this case, the park is already open, and there are a lot more people.

Oh man, I read that the original Meg book, can't believe they made more.

I think Jurassic World could be pretty good, seems like they are advancing the general story in a direction that seems kind of logical, you know if we could clone dinosaurs for 20 years, some ******* would try to create a new one.

Why do I get the feeling the first attempt of a hybrid was between a T-Rex and a velociraptor? You would think someone would have the brains to say, "Do you guys think we should have started with some herbivores first?"

That was my first thought as well

I don't care how bad the science is. I don't care how bad the writing is. Jurassic Park is my favorite movie of all time. I know Jurassic World doesn't have a chance to live up to it. Steven Speilberg isn't directing a movie based on a book Michael Crichton wrote with the help of Jack Horner's consulting. But the opportunity to be wowed by some of the greatest animals that ever lived one more time in the same world they all helped create is enough for me to go see this.

Also, if Chris Pratt's character (whose name is Owen) is just Timmy going by his middle name, I will probably freak out.

I find it hilarious that people are willing to immerse themselves and buy into a world where dinosaurs are revived from DNA millions and millions of years old but those same people splicing some DNA together is just totally out of the question.

Neither is scientifically sound whatsoever. It's a movie, have some fun.

What made the first JP so great was it was the first time that people felt they were actually seeing dinosaurs. Up until that point dinosaurs were usually stop action clay figures or really big iguanas superimposed onto the film.
That scene where the T-Rex attacked the jeep was so intense the first time you saw it.

Anyone else get the impression from the scene of the raptors being released and running along side Pratt on the motorcycle that they are working together to hunt the Hybrid?

Although, they could just be trying to eat him too...raptors being raptors.

Rumor has been that they domesticated the raptors in this film. They are essentially reprogrammed to work with humans...because of the past issues.

They actually looked to me like they were being released from racing gates...perhaps one of the attractions? Raptor races?
