JJeff Injury Updates

Generally they refer to more serious issues such as actual tears or fractures as structural damage. Technically a strain is microscopic tearing but they don't call it a tear until it reaches a more serious level.

So they are looking for something more serious then a simple strain. That is what they are referring to as 'structural damage'.

EDIT: Another way - My house is now 30+ years old. It has settled a bit and I have a couple minor cracks appearing in the drywall ceiling and wall in one spot. Now technically that is structural damage because that wall and ceiling is part of the structure of the house, but nobody (other than an unscrupulous contractor) would refer to that as structural damage because it doesn't threaten the structural integrity of the house.
Yep, there’s yer problem. That there is load bearing tape.

First round certainly was, not sure Kentucky would have been a cakewalk for other teams, we were just strong where they were weak, but if you don't have the ability to turn them over and make every possession a scramble, they could have been dangerous for someone.
Agreed. The "cakewalk schedule" angle has been used MULTIPLE times by Friendly Spartan in the last week and it's a little tired TBH. We've played at an extremely high level. Realize he's a Michigan State guy, but at least give some credit where credit is due.

My man it is a credit, this ISU team is final 4 caliber with JJ and without it’s still miles ahead of the teams you played. Thats why when people were worried I just don’t think they understand how good your squad is compared to the teams you played. Ya got a G5 team that none of its guys would make your roster and a Kentucky team with a coach extremely over his head and isn’t even a “team” just a collection of dudes looking to get paid and couldn’t care less about winning.

You don’t face a team even close to your level until the elite 8. I know a lot of people on here always think that they are the victim but ISU this year is a nightmare for non elite teams and even a lot of elite teams when healthy

Just me. I hate to say but we are doing beyond well w/o JJ.
His future NBA career is FAR more important than him playing college bb for "all-important" us.
Like so many of our players, no matter the sport, I gravitate towards these "kids" and their next level.
End all. We've been loaded with "great young men," bb and fb.
Their Next Level Success is far more important to me than a couple of more college wins.
110% sure, TJ would agree
Are you ******* serious???
A sprained ankle isn’t going to affect his NBA future. If he can play he gonna play.
Convert 5 minutes of Nelson to 10-15 minutes of Jefferson at 75% and we’re a better team.

I know the premium board knows something.

it’s natural to compensate for a recent injury during in game action, which could cause an additional or more severe injury. I think that’s what he/she is driving at.

I had an ankle injury playing pickup basketball 40 years ago and…. Just kidding

I remember North Carolinas run to the championship a few years ago when Amando Bacot was barely mobile with a terrible ankle injury. Dude was still grabbing 20reb a game.
No point here just saying anything is possible. I bet TJ will make the determination if JJ can play hard enough defense.

I think the team in general "deferred" to Jefferson too many possessions. I think TJ played Jefferson too many minutes, and he should have had a regular rotation like the rest of the team.
It IS fact that the lane is more open when he's not in, and it IS fact we have better spacing and ball movement when he's not in. Some of that is a result of how much we deferred to him.
If he is able to play, I feel we can have the best of both worlds now that the team knows we are good without him!
I hope he can make it back before Michigan, I hope we aren't trying to play him if his injury is making him struggle too much.
Playing your AA too much is quite a take.

Said it before…we’re actually a better team without JJ.

I don’t hate JJ.

But the reality is Nate is quicker on O and D. He doesn’t turn the ball over. His quickness to the hoop means there isn’t a double team waiting for him…where he launches the ball at the rim like it’s a hand grenade hoping for a bail out call where he hits 1 of 2 fts. Not that I’ve given it any thought.

On top of that he drags his defender out to the perimeter freeing up the lane. Which is why we had so many more cuts to the rim and layups last game. It’s opened up the offense.
Who were the low post power forward players on the two teams we played? None! The last time we played AZ, JJeff dominated Koa Peat (projected 1st rounder) scoring 21 and held him to 4 pts. The next game will tell us whether we're better without JJeff considering TN's bigs. N=2, need more games vs. better teams before drawing conclusions.

If I had never seen him play and just read this post, I'd look at the roster and wonder why Mulder doesn't replace Jefferson in the starting lineup!

Look, I've yelled my TV when he's turned the ball over. There have been frustrating moments, even a couple of frustrating games. But if you were to track ever time he's touched the ball over the season and sorted by positive, neutral, and negative outcomes, I believe the positive dwarf the negative. He touches the ball A LOT! Which means more opportunities for a bad outcome. Compare that to Heise, for example. The vast majority of Nate's touches result in a neutral outcome. He catches a pass, then passes it off. Joshua is depended on for making plays and he's done so all year.
When Jefferson plays within his game and keeps it to line 3 dribbles or less and is passing it out of double teams he literally elite next tier. Only time he gets in trouble is when he is trying to do much or overcompensating when the team is struggling offensively

Yeah, they start three (3) guys 6-10 or taller. I'm sure part of their plan is to exploit ISU's lack of depth in the front court. They will try to get Buchanan and Pleta in foul trouble. Even having Jefferson for 10-15 minutes would be a big help. I'm sure if we have him he will be on a pitch count since he hasn't even practiced for a week.
