Jerome Tiller, Backup Quarterback

It would not surprise me, if the redshirt comes off if needed, Coach always has said, the best players will play.....period. I wouldn't anticipate it, unless Arnaud goes down, but if that should happen, I'll bet the redshirt is history. I'm sure Tiller will have some input into that decision, but my guess is, he is thinking he can prove himself, and take over and beat out Arnaud next year. At least I hope he has that attitude. I might be wrong, but my impression of Chizik, is that if he thinks using Tiller in a pinch gives him the best chance to win, He won't hesitate.
 
I think we need to get to the point where we redshirt the future QB and have him get limited time as a RS Fresh and Soph. Then the Keys turn over as a Junior and Senior. Taking the RS off Tiller would be a big mistake UNLESS AA would be taken out for the season.
 
Just releax on the Arnaud getting hurt thing. I would say about 90% of the D1 schools would be in the same amount of trouble if the starter gets hurt and it RARELY happens. If Austen has to come out for a play or two they will put in Bueker, no big deal...

Following year, Tiller is a redshirt sophomore and we redshirt the recruit from the previous year.

It would be really stupid not to play the player who gives us the best chance to win.

How about LJ, or Dustin Land running some plays are QB? Darius Darks was a high school QB, too. :yes:

This was done over at nebraska a couple years ago - the redshirt played four plays that year. He transferred.
 
If Austen goes down and that may be a big if, we need a back up QB with some practice experience at that posistion Tiller? Beucker? Darks is a reciever LJ is a corner if we burn a redshirt because of it so be it Iowa State needs to win hands down. we can always recruit a juco or a true freshman I really do not think it is a big deal to burn a red shirt especially now in this situation. Players want to play that is how I see it.
 
Didn't realize reynolds was a juco qb. For some reason I thought he was a reciever. Sounds like a perfect fit for what we need right now. A qb who doesn't mind playing reciever if the situation warranted. I'd think he just jumped to number one on our recruiting list if he wasn't there already.
 
1.dan mccarney had ample time to recruit chase daniel and graham harrell,who are two of the top qbs in the country.i pushed maccarney hard` to recruit one of these two kids.
2.last year i was all over chizik to recruit griffin who now is at baylor.
3.there is only one qb that would be worth recruiting out of texas for 2009 and that is tyrk rollison from north east texas.he is one of the better dual threat qbs in the nation and iowa state has not recruited him.count up another good qb prospect we r not recruiting.
4.if we r able to pick up a qb for 2009,i imagine isaac virgin from florida will be our recruit.
5. money reynolds if he comes to iowa state will probably be thrown into the qb competition for 2009.

Billups certainly could have been one. I don't think he was around five years. And he played running back for a while, too.

I think it was Kansas in 1996 when Todd Bandhauer was thrown in for the final series when Doxon got hurt, nixing his redshirt. This was after Jeff St. Clair had taken off his defensive shoulder pads, put on QB ones and had warmed up.

Remeber that game well, was a waste I thought then, and still think now. Mac said they wanted the best chance to win though, which he provided. Can't blame him for trying, just hate to see history repeat itself with Tiller.
 
I REALLY hope they don't have to burn Tiller's shirt. I mean if you have to this week or next then go ahead and do it. But if we're sitting at 3-7 then you really need to think about the future.

If Bandy had redshirted that would have put him a SR in '99. Sage wouldn't have played in '99, which really set up our best season in '00. Just something to chew on.

Also, Doxon got hurt after throwing an interception. He chased the defender all the way down the field (at least 50 yards) before tackling him and getting hurt. This was one of the last games of the year. ISU was right in the game and Mac threw Bandy in to try to salvage the game...which he didn't.

I can vouch for that. San Antonio seems like forever away from home. Thank goodness, I hit the ground running when I moved here, and never had time to be homesick.

Now, years later, I love it here, and wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

Ah, yes yes!! Doxon pulled a Drew Tate.

You guys are right, one can't disagree with DMAC in that case... I just wanted to see Saint win the game for us.
