I hope he doesn't have to play this year...

that said, I'm impressed with his athleticism. plenty of hops, a 40" vertical that we saw when he "bumped" a big playmaker coming off the field earlier, and the staff seems impressed with him. Anyone know, does he have a really good arm, like Austen, or just a strong one--like, say, Brad Smith?

Obviously he needs the redshirt, if he reported at something like 6-4 180. Still, I'm excited about the future!

And I'd be just as happy if we don't see Jerome before, say, Spring Ball.

He will play this year. It may be only one play like Sage.

That seems OK. Get him into game flow now, push his learning curve as much as feasible. Get him ready NOW.

And, that, too, should help ISU land a quality quarterback in the 2009 class. Since Jerome will have three years eligibility after this season, not four. The new qb would gain eligibility -- assuming a redshirt year -- when Jerome is a junior.

Maybe two QBs in this class? . . .

Maybe a dual role for Darius "Money" Reynolds, primarily a WR but gets some work at QB, too?

I see no way Tiller doesn't play this year now. To many things can happen. At any moment, we might need him in for one play.

Would Tiller be #2 on the depth chart now? Or would it be highly touted Brett Bueker??

I'm sure if AA went down this early in the season Tiller plays. If it is with only a game or two left and we have no chance of going to a bowl game I'm sure they won't pull the redshirt off of him. The question is what if AA gets the wind knocked out of him and somebody needs to come in for one play or one series?

Just one play would be remarkably stupid, blowing a whole year of eligibility. I'm sure if someone is needed for a single play, it would be Brett Buetker.

How about LJ, or Dustin Land running some plays are QB? Darius Darks was a high school QB, too.

Billups played one snap during his redshirt year and took a punt back for 6 in Phoenix, if I remember right.

I'd like to know more about Brett, including how he's performing in practices. Does Mac believe that he can play, or is he purely a practice team contributor?

During the first couple of games, he was on the earphones (photo) and seemed to be involved in what was happening offensively on the field.

At the time, I was surprised that a true freshman quarterback was so involved, but maybe it's not unusual. I don't know. Anyone?

Who is this "Mac" you speak of?

That was not Billups redshirt year. He played great at safety for us that year.

And so the exception disproves the rule?

Even if he's playing only a handful of plays, that blows the second year he could start after Austen leaves. Do you instead try to get him a redshirt next year, or the year after?

You have all of Spring ball and the offseason to get Jerome ready. Besides, Austen, still developing, needs all the snaps he can get. I'm just praying he doesn't get hurt.

Looks like I am mistaken, but I thought he blew his redshirt year by playing one snap at the end of the year?

McCarney liked to blow lots of redshirt years on a handful of meaningless plays. And I say that having liked him. Sorry, I can't pick them all out.

Billups certainly could have been one. I don't think he was around five years. And he played running back for a while, too.

Coach McFarland, our offensive coordinator and our offensive line coach.

It is confusing, though, considering we've got GMac in the "Mac" mix, too. I won't shorten McFarland to Mac in the future, I take your point.

I thought it was bandhauer who pulled the redshirt for 1 play?

Yes it was, not Sage.

But if AA does go down, god forbid, How bout we play Darius Darks at Qb? He did in high school. Maybe if its only one game.

Or it could be someone else that played QB in HS. There should be plenty on the team. As long as its not Ben Lamaak, hes a little bit bigger now then when he played QB.
