I often wonder if people would feel differently about NIL if say ISU had Georgia’s budget and could target any roster need with a blank check.

Isn't that the point though?

True, it's possible Cooper told DR I'm staying but I would like to give you the opportunity to find me opportunities prior to me committing to you as my agent. Unlikely but possible.
What makes it seem plausible to me is that taking a cut of an NIL deal would be chump change for Rosenhaus. The bigger deal would be a cut of the NFL contracts. So maybe you’re right

Ballpark figure, what do our highest paid players get per year?

Not speaking for anyone in the know, but I believe they've said before that they don't really want to publicize the amounts paid because it just would cause teams to know the kind of money we have.

Are we talking like $25k a year or $300k a year? I’m pretty sure non-profits have to disclose financials don’t they?

Doesn't mean he's leaving, but certainly means he's looking. Iowa State can't keep up with the big dogs in NIL so I'm not sure why you would agree to give someone a piece of a smaller pie if you 100% planned to stay.
True but they’re only so many spots. Guys have to be aware of that too. At the end of the day these guys do want to play, and not make money sitting behind someone.

Doesn’t this shiit Just cause toxicity in the locker room? Player x gets 100k from the collective and player Y gets 25k and ends up outplaying player x. It’s just becoming a light version of the nfl

And of course I would like the nil if we were able to write checks like Georgia.
Most schools don’t though and anyone with a brain can understand where all this is heading if some governance isnt put in place.

There will be a clearly defined tier 1 group and the rest just deal with it.

If you’re a high performing employee, you get more money at your job. If you’re a great NFL player at your position on your team, you’ll get more money than your back up. No locker room problems because that’s how the world works

I think it's probably best to assume we are at the bottom of what most schools could supply.

This is true. But let's say you go out and get the best OL man that money can buy. And then they get injured 3 games in. Or they suck and get benched. I find it hard to believe there would be no hard feelings.

The important piece is the "salary cap" that prevents an ever escalating arms race for cash. In return for this, players are going to want guarantees. Probably two year deals so everyone can plan but a player still has an opportunity to make one move for $$ if they develop a ton. I said in another thread there may be a cap number each school is allowed to distribute, but potentially also a limit on the number of players who can receive pay above and beyond the value of the scholarship, which enables top players to earn a greater percentage of the agreed upon cap money and also keeps schools from hoarding bench talent.

Keep in mind that if a football cap number is just $6-$8 million per team, and there's 70 teams in the P4 participating, you are approaching half a billion annually that would be transferred out of athletic department budgets and directly into players hands. This will greatly impact the finances of most athletics departments and will have negative repercussions to the amount and quality of Olympic sports they make available.

Agreed a salary cap would be great. On the plus side, people aren’t throwing around stupid amounts of money for a single player like they used to. Collectives have gotten smarter and spread out the cash

I think it should be fine to hire an agent to negotiate your endorsement deals with private companies and stuff like that, but it seems ridiculous to be allowed to hire an agent to solicit market offers from schools interested in paying you to transfer to their team.
Scholarships are on a year to year basis. So essentially 1 year contracts. Agents in these situations reaching out to collectives is essentially the same as putting out feelers for upcoming free agents. I don't like it, but it's not going to change.

How did the Cade McNamara amount get out? I wouldn’t be surprised if they screamed that from rooftops.

Probably different collectives have different ideas on what to do.

Just going to continue to have to get used to this. There is almost zero percent chance we actually keep everybody even if the We Will Collective can give them something. Some players are just going to chase the biggest bag offered and that’s ok. It’s their decision, but I hope we have more TJ Tampa type of players then not each year where they get something and stay loyal to the culture and school/staff that actually gave them a chance and believed in them from the beginning.
The jump to conclusions may has been found!
