And yet none of them felt the need to go into the crowd and shove the guy.
 
The fan was in the wrong for saying whatever it is he said but Smart is the one that ran over and shoved the guy. He clearly should know better. Regardless of what a fan says you don't leave the court. Very dumb move by Smart.

So did Fran and he charged a ref forcing him backwards. Why if a player loses his cool when being taunted (racist or not) people talk about him being suspended for the season but if a coach does without being taunted it is a one game suspension at most? What about the Michigan Player that shoved the ISU fan to the ground? What about Jeff Grayer, should we remove him from the rafters. Smart crossed the line yes and he should be punished but anything more than one game reaks of a horrible double standard of how we expect players to act when we don't even have the same expectation of coaches.

I go completely the other way and support Smart on this....


fan behavior is ridiculous. The only thing more ridiculous is condoning of it by other fans, administrations, etc. Orr flipped off and mouthed off to an A and M player....and the school said "it didn't cross the line". A grown adult flipping off and cursing to a kid isn't crossing the line? Ridiculous.


multiple multiple people have come forward saying the guy..while passionate...runs his mouth. If he said the magic word...I have no issue with what smart did. Shame on Orr and the fans around him for allowing it.....so while I don't encourage a player to act that way...clearly Orrs behavior wasn't going to change....but....I bet it does now. I'd not subscribe to the idea that being a fan or booster allows you to be an arse with no possibility of repercussion by the school, fans, or players.

Compare it to the Malice in the Palace....although I know it wàsnt that severe. Because of that incident we now have makeshift halls for the players to enter, security is better, nba has a new code of conduct, unruly fans were banned. The same needed to happen at the college level. Even though Smart was wrong...I understand it...and support it IF he dropped that word. It was an ugly incident...but might have been an ugly incident that needed to happen.

I was 9 but I remember it being worse. Not questioning you are right just asking how sure you are because I had searched and couldn't find anything.

This is what I think happened:

SuperFan while Smart is on the ground, " Ever hear of Proactive?"

Smart reaction," Yes I have, by the way did you run out of Just for Men or did you just forget to color you sideburns? I really love the way you part your receding hairline in middle! You are rockin' it today!!"

SuperFan comeback, "You talkin' color to me boy? I guess you forgot which boat you ancestors where hauled over on."

I am not that good of a lip ready, but just saying.
 
There is too much bias, rumor and gossip with this incident. It will be reviewed by the Big XII, OSU, and TTU. Hopefully they sort through the matter, get down to facts, and filter out all of the fan and media bias in this incident. I assume actions will be taken. Punishments taken against Marcus Smart would seem to be straightforward. A player never assaults a fan - period. Jeff Orr is probably the responsibility of Texas Tech. Judging from comments on the TX Tech fan forums, most believe that Mr. Orr said Flopper or F***ing Flopper or something like that. There are no claims of the use of the "N" word from other fans seated in the vicinity (fan bias?). It will be interesting to see if Mr. Orr receives any punishment or not. I wonder if OSU or Big XII will take exception to Travis Ford's and the ref's handling of the situation. IMHO, Travis Ford should have sent Marcus Smart to the locker room. In my opinion, the ref's should have ejected Marcus Smart for assaulting a fan. I was thinking of Kane's ejection in the BYU game for poking the opposing player's eyes. Most ISU fans thought that was a terrible call. This seems more serious. Perhaps, officials only have authority for play calling in the game itself and not player - fan interactions (?).

Highly doubt your insinuation that Smart is lying. Smart immediately went after him and also was pointing back at him afterwards telling the refs what he did. His reaction was instinctive and in the heat of the moment. He likely had no time to think of a lie to absolve himself. Granted , he should have had better sense than to go after the fan, but I think your version of what might of happened makes no sense at all.

I keep hearing this and I want to point out where it started. Twitter, based on a TV station doing lip reading. Their tweet said it looks like the fan said "go back to ____". A college basketball twitter feed then made it "Go back to A-----". Which the TV station said they didn't see. There was nothing concrete about any of this. The TV station even noted it was based on amateur lip reading they were doing.

Also, if this lip reading is from immediately before the shove, it's not what irked Smart because that would be after Smart already quickly shot up off the ground and approached the fan.

The go back to Africa example seems to be the perfect example of how nobody has any idea what was actually said with the exception of a bunch of lip reading that anyone who watches the film is capable of doing. I believe it looks like Smart is complaining to the ref while he's explaining to Ford the call "He called me a (camera blocked). Racist!(while pointing toward Orr)".

But it's all total speculation. The only reason I saw the go back to Africa thing is because I was watching the information get more and more elaborated on the trending topics on Twitter. I can almost guarantee that story is entirely speculation and not the basis of what caused the confrontation.
