Yes, I read that article last night.. I thought it was interesting. I think Campbell's success in the state will only increase over time (assuming he stays for the long term).
I think there are three key factors:
1) Sustained Success: Campbell has raised the floor for the program. I think this will be an interesting year to see how we do after having 4 draft picks for the first time in almost 50 years (1977).
2) Ferentz Age: He is still only 66 so he could coach for another 10+ years. I do wonder if the changing landscape of college sports will push him to retire earlier than he might have.... fry retired at 69. If he retires or there is any question that he might, it could impact his ability to recruit (see the end of the snyder era at ksu).
3) Rivalry: At some point we have to start beating iowa right? Can't get much worse than the current slide we are on to start the Campbell era.... I know a lot of people will say it doesn't matter. But I do think extremes matter. You have to win at some point. When he starts to win that game, I think it will help the perception in the state even more.
At the end of the day, I think all of these are likely to trend in Campbell's favor over the next 5 years or so... again, assuming he stays. I like his chances getting us back to dominating in state recruiting the way we did under Mac toward the end of his 5 yr run vs. Iowa.
