I thought this thread was going to be about stadium improvements to the south endzone....
I was anticipating the exact same thing!

Exactly. We should never again look as inept as we did early last year. Inept is sugar coating it too.
I expect us to be at least 3-1 after the first four games - nothing less - with a decent shot at 4-0.
IMO, the game that will tell us the most about the state of the program and the direction things are going will be the UNLV game (whether we beat Iowa or not).
The last few years, it seems like we don't play well in road games we should win. See Army (very, very close to being a loss - one lucky facemask call away) and Toledo.
IMO, if we come out and crack UNLV across the face, that will be very encouraging and a sign that we are a well-coached, mature football team, even if we are young.
Speaking of NCAA 09... when does it come out? Soon I think
the excitement for that Thurs..with all involved (new uni's/remolded JT) is going to be off the charts
I'm definitely excited for those things, but my excitement for the '06 season was at an all-time high. I really felt that was our year to do something special. HA! I so felt like Charlie Brown as Lucy pulled the ball out from in front of him.
I think if we can do some good things this year, my excitement for '09 would easily surpass that.
I felt this way as well....I really under-estimated the task coach was handed.
I don't want to completely travel down this road, but I completely disagree with that statement.

As far as the National Championship being a popularity contest, I think, for whatever reason, we'd become the friggin darling of the nation, like Rutgers was. I think people nationally would pull for ISU against teams like Texas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, what have you.
For that first half of 2002, we were pretty damn popular nationally, and we got up to #9 in a damn hurry.
