Is Jefferson underappreciated?

Yeah NFL and NBA players play amazing every game so why not JJ right?
I'm not dissing his play. I'm glad he's here. But what does appreciation have to do with it when he's getting payed very well to play here?

When you take your car to the mechanic and pay expensive bill do you appreciate them or do you expect a good job to be done?

When he plays within his game he is ridiculously good but when he starts doing stuff and over dribbling it usually leads to dumb turnovers. He does tend to miss bunnies but as a whole, he’s probably under appreciated imo despite being one of the best players in America.
He still turns the ball over less than a lot of the greats that were worshipped by the fans.

Yes he misses bunnies, yes he turns it over. But at times it is because he has the burnden to make something happen because he is the one player who can make it happen. No one else has a skill level that is multiple.

I'm not paying JJ to do anything though (unless that 6 pack of Ames Lager I bought last summer is helping), especially not to fix something in my life, and really if like a mechanic of whatever is efficient and reliable I'm going to appreciate it.

A guy for what he generally does outside of a high scoring average and just being a big part of the current era of ISU basketball is something to appreciate, paid or not.

I don't think this is for you, but people that call for him to be benched, even if the result is the rest of the team struggling just to 'send a message' because they don't think the staff holds players accountable (if only they read up on the program expectations), are morons.

Assuming they're treating me fairly, yeah, of course.

I think you expect a lot of consistency from an elite player who plays (for the most part) near the rim. You’ve laid it out really well. When he tries to do too much and starts to turn the ball over or miss easy ones, it becomes an issue. He should embrace the criticism in my opinion. It is really only pushing him to exactly who he wants to be.

You can compare him to Lipsey. Shots don’t always go in, but assists, rebounds, steals and effort are above expectations.

I think a lot of it has to do with Iowa State as a whole being underappreciated, nationally at least. Despite being in the think of the race for the final #1 seed, it still feels like we're the "forgotten team" by the media, even when that final #1 is effectively down to us, UConn, and as of today, Florida (how they ended up in the discussion I want to say "I'll never know", but let's be honest - $EC).

JJ is awesome. I don't have a problem with appreciating his value while still recognizing weaknesses. What's great is that it seems like he's doing a little better job of taking care of the ball in traffic. If he improves at finishing at the rim after contact he'll be unstoppable.

Sometimes I think that has been a spacing/player movement problem where the other guys aren't drawing the 2nd or 3rd defender away and making themselves available for a pass.
