IMO, Manning needs to go, he is strictly old school. Our 1st offensive play of the game is always Breece Hall running between the tackles. It doesn’t take a genius defensive coordinator to see that. I can’t remember the last time I saw this staff run a RPO, a jet sweep, or a reverse to open a game. Come on, let’s be a little less predictable.

Yeah, he's ruining the team. I had a nuclear meltdown last year and got ripped. Most crucial play in ISU history against Oklahoma and dude cant even decide what play he wants to run. We finally get the play in with about 5 seconds left so everyone is scrambling around and of course Brock just throws it up for grabs.

Tom Manning is behind the times as a play caller, and just because Iowa State had dog water offenses for decades and he's set records compared to those doesn't make him the best we can do at the position.

i hope this venting makes you feel better. nothing will change

if it doesn’t make you feel better, then prepare to be disappointed for as long as Matt Campbell is the coach at Iowa State.

Seriously another damn near shut out by Heacock and the defensive side of the ball given up by a turd of an offensive showing and play calling at times... hell I know I received a suspension here for calling out Prohm a few years ago like this but it is more then time for this.. the offensive issues against UNI and then Iowa today as well as other big games have always been questionable at best.
Our defense holds Iowa to 173 total yards of offense, and we lose. Are you kidding me. This is all on our offense/Manning. Hell yes he has to go.

campbell has earned the right to call his own shots and he's been willing to fire Toledo guys (the old strength staff) if he thinks he should.

But I will say this, god forbid if Campbell leaves after this year, you don't ******* hire Manning as his replacement.

Was just thinking about this last night. If Campbell leaves after this year for a blueblood, he brings Heacock with him, and we hire Manning as HC. That would be disastrous.

Matt blamed himself in the post game but it was clear he wasn’t happy with the offense.

Not sure what you do here, Tom pretty clearly needs some help in a lot of areas and I don’t think firing him solves anything. He just has to get better. Might just need band aids until the year is over, then see what happens with who is here and who is not.

This is why Matt gets paid what he does.

its a real mess though, nobody is denying that.

Time will tell, but some blame is execution by the players. Is it mostly game plan or players missing throws and making bad decisions. We’ll see if they can work it out or not.
This "player execution" argument comes up year after year. If the players can't execute year after year, there is a coaching issue. Since there doesn't seem to be this problem with the defense, it suggests to me that there is a problem with the coaching on the offensive side.

We have a Heisman-caliber running back, the most decorated QB in school history, a supposedly 11-deep offensive line the lines of which we haven't seen perhaps ever, and arguably the best set of TEs in the country. And in spite of all that, Campbell wants to be Ferentz-Lite, keeping scores in the teens and forcing his defense to bail him out, over and over.

It doesn't add up, and there's no reason for it.
I don't understand this either. The team with the most points wins. I'm not sure why a coach would be averse to scoring points.

Mangino beat Iowa

Oh man ISU should totally hire him and CPR, Barney Cotton and Danny Mac back.

The 'but they beat Iowa' super team thst will leave 80s/90s ISU fan totally content.

Yes, he does nothing for me. Hell when Campbell called his own plays in 2018 our offense was no worse. At least we were saving a salary.
Wrong. Our offense was significantly better LAST year than when CMC called plays in 2018. The fact we had 4 turnovers is also not Manning’s issue. Yes the play calling can be better.

I don’t know, but you don’t make these decisions two games into a season.

I know this is frustrating because this year was suppose to be at a different level. It potentially could still be but the offense laid a total egg yesterday, so Campbell, Manning, and the rest of the offensive staff have some work to do.

I think Manning at times tries to get cute by thinking 'I'm going to break tendencies here'. Not posting up Kolar with at least one attempt on our first drive inside the ten is one example.

I thought we were in trouble at that point, and of course, it got worse from there.

Yep and it's when the 'tendencies' are what's working.

I took a look at only the first quarter this morning, and I completely agree with you. I thought our first possession of the 2nd half involved some questionable play-calling, but the 1st and goal at the Iowa 9 in the first quarter resulted in 3 dreadful plays that played right into how Iowa was set up on each possession.

How many of the bolded statements are actually true? Our QB is decorated, because of longevity at an historically weak position for the program. As for the others, not seeing anything to support the pre-season hype.

Time for the five star culture to re-assert itself, because this program, at least on the offensive side of the ball, isn't winning on raw talent.

I think Hall is a future pro and really, really good but he looks dinged up and can't get right. Also like any good RB he needs the space.

Said it in some other thread but he should stay out this week. I like what J. Brock does and beating UNLV shouldn't rely on Hall.
