Interesting Sam Richardson Stat

there is a huge difference between having the want too of running through a brick wall, and having the ability to run through a brick wall.

All I know about Arnaud is this.....

Three ISU qbs have won a bowl game. Arnaud is one of them.

If ISU needed 6 yards and Arnaud was 4 yards into a run, he wasn't sliding.

He was frustrating to watch sometimes, but when he was on, he was pretty good (Iowa performances aside).

No. Austen Arnaud was not terrible. He was not great but he was pretty decent and probably one of the better QB's we have had. We have had a lot of poor QB's at ISU and Austen Arnaud was not of those poor QB's.

Richardson has played very well for us.

No, Richardson has played ok for us.

He torched Kansas.

He was terrible throwing and excellent running against West Virginia. He didn't outplay Geno Smith. Richardson was playing against one of the worst defenses in the country and put up a wicked stat line of 13/31 for 162 and 3 TDs. Geno Smith against a better defense put up 22/31 for 236 and 2 TDs (f you Tavon Austin). Sam was EXCELLENT running the ball but a completely one-dimensional offense isn't going to win many games and his lack of ability to throw was the reason it was one-dimensional. WVU had held one team in conference up to playing us under 40 points.

The Liberty Bowl he was sick. He had 1 good pass the entire game (Ernst Bruns' rumblin' stumblin' bumblin' TD) and was terrible outside one huge run.

UNI this year was a much better game. 22/32 for 242 and 2 TDs. That's acceptable but any of the top half teams in the Big 12 would call that terrible for their quarterbacks, especially against an FCS opponent.

Iowa this year he buried us (sans Bundrage's first TD catch) for the first 50 minutes of the game. He was absolutely awful. He was easily outplayed by Rudock.

Tulsa this year the passing game was much better. 26/41 for 255 and 2 TDs against a bad defense is ok. Blake Bell (who we all know isn't exactly the cream of the Big 12 quarterback crop) threw for 413 yards on 27/37 and 4 TDs against that same defense.

It doesn't matter how Sam Richardson stacks up against Steele Jantz, Jared Barnett, Todd Bandhauer, Seneca Wallace, Austen Arnaud, Waye Terry, Austin Flynn, Bret Meyer, etc. Sam Richardson needs to stack up against Baker Mayfield (who we'll see if he is the real deal), Bryce Petty, JW Walsh/Clint Chelf, Treyvon Boykin/Casey Paschall, David Ash, Blake Bell, etc. or we're not going to go anywhere as a team. He's played ok as a Cyclone but there isn't a good team in the Big 12 he'd be taking snaps for.

As soon as we get better up front, play calling improves, his ankle heels, more experience, and improve the ground game with wimberly and company the stat sheet will improve. Running for your life on a lot of plays is not good for any qb ever. IMO which most will agree with it starts up front period.

If Arnaud had the talent at receiver we have now he'd be a pretty solid QB, IMO.

Last year when we had a QB controversy Sam had a better TD to Interception ratio, and a better QB rating than he does this year. So I guess you think that we do worse when we only use one quarterback.

Sam has been a solid QB for us. He's had his ups and downs, but he certainly has the potential to be very good. Keep in mind most of us would still agree that he has a sub-par OC calling plays for him, which more than likely isn't helping his production.

I like Bret, but when you have the chance to take all the snaps for all 4 years of your playing career, you better lead your school in passing statistics. Would be a little pathetic if he didn't, IMO. Rosenfels, Wallace, even Bandhauer were better QB's, but didn't have the luxury of playing that long. SBR has potential to be our best since Seneca.

Oh I agree. Bret was a solid guy and did a pretty good job. Rosenfels and Wallace were better for sure. I think Sam has the tools to be better than Bret and Sage. He's not as talented as Wallace, but he could end up playing better in the end.

Stevie Hicks had a few thousand yard seasons in there and Bret Meyer ended up our all time passing leader. The Chizik years were a pile of suck though.

Stevie had one 1000 yard year. the other two were in the 500 yard range, so lets not get carried away. Stevie had the ability to run into any tackler. Alexander Robinson was actually more recent and far more accomplished.

You're right. For some reason I thought I he had two good years. His injuries in 2005 really hurt the whole team.

Blake Bell looked like a 5 star QB today. Just because Stoops hasn't used him like a QB doesn't mean he is not capable. He was a 5 star QB for a reason leaving HS, and its because of his performances at passing camps, not his size and athleticism.

Blake Bell would take Sam's job if he were on this team.
