If you won the lottery??

#1 Quit Work
#2 Move
#3 Buy a condo somewhere in the NW close to an airport that I would use as a base
#4 Travel really slow. Spend months in places I've always wanted to visit.

Assuming $100 Million, after taxes, lump sum...

I would do the usual stuff listed above (set up self, kids, family, friends), buy some fun stuff, donate a good chunk.

The one thing maybe a bit unique is start up a venture capital fund to support business here in Iowa, to help get them started. The kid with the good idea in the Ames Lab, that kind of thing. Try to make the DM-Ames are sort of a mini silicon valley in terms of new startups.

If they make money, then keep rolling it over into new ventures. If it all gets blown, well, I am still OK and had some fun and gave it a whirl. I would want to be involved in the vetting and selection, enjoy that kind of thing.

I like this a lot, and I agree it would a lot of fun.

Lump sum and depending on the sum of winnings...

1. Legit press box for JTS and facility study for Hilton to determine what improvements can/should be made, then pay for them.
2. Half the rest to one specific charity so that the $$$ would make maximum impact.
3. Half the rest to whatever cuz I didn't work for it so I can do whatever with it (I'd have no plans to quit working).

I would purchase the large farm for sale on the outskirts of my town and donate it to the town economic development group so they could target quality business's that are looking to relocate and expanded. Have them give the ground away to the business for free to move here, bringing quality employment opportunities to the area.

I would donate the funds to build a very nice high school football/track/soccer stadium for the same subject 3A school.

Endow the rest and live each day on the interest earned.

*** Note*** I honestly think I can get this all done for about 25 million.

Winning the lotto would just be icing on the cake for a great life I have already have. This would just be the start of many great things.
1. Build a mansion walking distance away from the Jack and Hilton where I would invite big Iowa State boosters and great athletes (No CyBroncos, you will not be invited).
2. Buy a yacht and invite all of my friends on exclusive boat rides wherever I chose.
3. Buy other great houses in St. Louis, Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, and Key West.
4. Obviously continue to donate a great share to our great University
Those are just ideas that popped in my head right now.

1. Quit job.
2. Buy modest but nice house in the country on 80 acres or so.
3. Buy new fishing boat (maybe two).
4. Go fishing, indefinitely.

I would get things wrapped up as best I could at work then leave. Then I would take a trip. I don't care where, just as long as I didn't have to lug a laptop around with me. I am so sick of having to bring one around with me where ever I go. It doesn't matter if I am on call or not. It doesn't matter if it is my area of responsibility or not. It doesn't matter if I am marked out of the office or not. They always call. They probably still would.

Lump sum

Buy a parcel of land in Iowa with a stream and/or a good sized pond - Maybe 40 acres or so. Build homes for myself and siblings - basically a compound. Build a centrally located recreational area on the land with a pool, basketball court, theater, kitchenette, Picnic shelter, changing rooms, etc for weekends and holidays.

Also a huge (thinking 24-car sized) garage/shop for me to store my auto collection as I build it up. Probably need to hire someone to keep them cleaned and serviced at all times.

Get a nice condo in Ames for game days and basketball nights. Top donor season tickets of course - goes w/o saying.

Partial ownership of a jet for flights avoiding commercial air travel.

Keep my FL condo but maybe add an additional unit in the same building for visitors and family.

Charity donations, but to none that beg, and always incognito.
