I Am Legend

I didn't like I Am Legend. I would say 2/5 at best. I am not a Will Smith fan at all, although he was decent in this I guess.

The creatures were laughable.

Re: I Am Legend - Alternate ending

Dragging up an old thread here instead of starting a new one. I just watched this movie for the first time on Blu-Ray, the original theatrical release. I want to watch the alternate ending too, but I don't want to rewatch the whole movie again right now. Does anybody know what point I can skip to without missing any changes? I'm thinking it is when they're trapped in the lab about 10 minutes before the end but correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks.

I really didn't quite know what to think of "I Am Legend after it ended. I liked it, but at the same time there was just something about it that made me dislike it. In the tradition of "Cast Away", Will Smith is alone, and the only thing he can talk to is his dog and some store mannequins. His character Robert Neville is part of the 1% of survivors of a virus that turns everyone into zombie/vampires. He is totally alone in Manhattan, and watching him speed through deserted Times Square is extremely eerie. During the day he hunts and tries to find a cure for the virus, and at night he hides from the "dark seekers".

There is one of my problems, the trailer promised a freaky movie, and it is until we see the creatures, then we find out they look almost laughable. Though a scene when Neville is in a pitch black warehouse, before he first sees them, will scare the daylights out of you. Even though the dark seekers are not scary, the director still manages to make you jump at least 8 times. The most I've ever jumped in a movie. The creatures look like poorly done CGI; bald humans with rotting teeth and red eyes. And that's not very scary to me. Also, towards the middle, some scenes start to drag since you have realized that it won't be scary.

That aside, Will Smith is brilliant playing a quiet, dark, brooding character instead of his usual one liner cracking macho men. He literally carries the movie on his own and actually makes otherwise tedious scenes, like giving his dog a bath, interesting, or talking to his mannequin friend, Fred, believable. Director Francis Lawrence did a good job for the most part creating an eerie and dark movie, yet he failed horribly in making a believable, scary vampire hybrid, and with tons of plot holes in an otherwise interesting concept. Also, the ending is sorely lacking, if they would've come up with a better ending the movie would seem even better, but sadly they did not.

This is a very enjoyable movie for the hour and forty minutes that it plays out, but the second it's done it becomes mostly forgettable. "I Am Legend" is one of those movies you see once, like it, but then never see it again. Already this film has made 76 million in the first three days, so see it mostly because it'll be the thing right now, and also see it because of the amazing Will Smith.

Overall I enjoyed the movie, but I prefer "creepy" scary as opposed to "startling" scary. The only parts of the movie that were scary were the predictable times when one of the "dark seekers" jumped out of nowhere. Other than that, the dark seekers were laughable, pre-Jurassic Park CGI.

As far as the ending, I prefer the original ending. That would be considered the "sad" ending, but at least the line "I am legend" is actually spoken and makes sense. The alternate "happy" ending was a little too contrived and I'm glad they didn't use that for the original. I have not seen the "Scooby-Doo" ending yet.

It was totally not what I was expecting. I did like the movie though. I usually like Will's movie's and I thought he did pretty well in this movie. I usually don't like these style of movies but I thought this one was pretty decent.

that part i so freaky, like when they are huddled up sleeping, then they wake up, that reminded me a little bit of the hills have eyes, but overall i really liked the movie, but one thing is the ending was descent at best, it couldve been better, will smith is probably one of my favorite actors, and i also really liked cloverfield

I watched it on Blu-Ray Saturday night and watched the alternate ending after the theatrical ending. The difference in the endings really doesn't come until Smith and the girl barricade themselves in the glass room. You should be able to pick it up from there.

Frankly, I think ALL the zombie movies have a practical application as "training" for what to do when they do, actually and inevitably, attack. Those of you who don't like these movies will be sorry, when zombies attack.

I just watched it tonight, I did not see the alternate endings on the netflix DVD I had... I wonder if I can get them online somewhere.

i think it is only on the blu-ray edition i just watched it tonight

I preferred the original (sad) ending over the alternate (happy) ending. The sad ending gave more meaning to the title of the movie. As I said previously in this thread, I haven't seen the Scooby Doo ending.

I think that "Phaedrus" is to "love of zombies" as "CycloneGizzard" is to "love of arm-wrestling"

Yea if they used the alternate ending they could have brought Will Smith back for a sequel.
