thoughts are we dont have a poisition job open for him, Tony Franklin is the OC
If it does end up being Franklin, than I can't help but think back to the coaches clinic where I don't think it was an accident that Rhoads invited Leach to be the keynote speaker. I'll bet lots of interesting conversations between Rhoads and Leach about how to jumpstart our offense, and maybe a few recommendations such as Franklin to replace TH if things weren't going in the right direction.

Edit: Forgot Rhoads coached with Tony half the season in 2008.

Interesting thought. Franklin did work with Mike at Kentucky and Franklin is currently OC under Sonny D-ykes, Leaches protege.

The more I read about Tony Franklin, the more I like.

If you say BCS OC to BCS QB coach it looks like a demotion. But if you say ISU OC to THE Ohio State QB coach it doesn't look like too much of a demotion. And even if it is a a small demotion, it is a demotion worth taking because the payoff could be huge.

Adam Rittenberg, ESPN's Big 10 blogger, just tweeted that Herman is not only the new qb coach at OSU, but also Offensive Coordinator.

I don't blame him for taking this opportunity...I just wish other coaches saw ISU as there dream job. It is times like these I am truly greatful for CPR.

That being said, ISU cannot achieve the same success other colleges have with thieir football program until we can retain coaches in my opinion.

Good for Herman, I hope he does well. He was never goign to be here forever anyway, everyone knew he would move on eventually one way or the other.

OC's don't stay in one spot for long.

There will still be people saying it was a bad move.

At this point, I think the only people that will question the move will be tOSU fans that question his credentials. This will lead to Urb justifying the hire by saying what a great offensive mind TH is while taking shots at ISU's stature as a program and overall talent level. This will in turn lead a lot of us on here to think Urb is a pretty big *******.

Congrats to Tom Herman. OC for tOSU is a step up for about any non head coach from any program in the country, especially on Urb's staff where he'll get all kinds of accolades if it works out.

just read on CR that Herman is expected to coach in the bowl game. I'm not sure i'm in agreement with this. Get going to Ohio State and lets move on with who is here.

Looks like the demotion/lateral move discussion can be put to rest. OSU's release lists him as Offensive Coordinator/QB Coach.

Tom Herman Named Ohio State Offensive Coordinator/QB Coach - OhioStateBuckeyes.com - The Official Athletic site of The Ohio State University
Consider me shocked. At a place like OSU, you can afford to be picky and go for the slam dunk hires. Not sure what they would be looking at over the past few years that would convince them that this is a slam dunk hire. Good for Tom, I guess.

Absolutely. Congratulations Coach Herman. Thanks for the memories, and gig 'em, or whatever Buckeyes do to their foes.

This finally makes some real sense, and I'm glad it was solved in a day so we can make a move on a replacement without having to ask questions about climate or relationships, etc.
