Haliburton Does It Again

Sabonis and Turner on the same team was not working. The belief was that the Pacers would trade Turner, but they brilliantly traded Sabonis for Haliburton. Turner and Tyrese have developed a great chemistry in the high screen and roll.
The King's, at the time, had to decide between Tyrese an Fox, who was playing great and had signed a big contract. They needed an inside presence and getting Sabonis worked out really well for them, as he's been great. I don't know if the Pacers would have taken Fox in that trade. The contract situation with Tyrese was much better.

Now the King's have regressed and Fox is gone to the Spurs. Obviously, in hindsight, the Pacers got the best of this trade. I wonder what the King's would be if Fox had been the trade piece to get Sabonis.

Great article from ESPN highlighting some of the struggles Tyrese went though earlier this season:

However, my favorite quote:

"Haliburton is now shooting 12-for-14 (86%) on game-tying or go-ahead shots in the final two minutes of the fourth quarter or overtime this season, regular season and playoffs. That's the best percentage in a single season since tracking data began in 1996-97, according to ESPN Research."

Pacers organization and coaching is just way better than what the kings have going on. Glad Tyrese is there.

Carlisle probably won’t coach much longer but if I could hire any coach in prime of his career he’d definitely be toward the top. I like that he’s shown he can coach teams to win in very different ways depending on his personnel and the era.

Beyond TH, we be ripping the NFL.
Hardly represented to the point of the $-loaded big boyz, but damn, I'm unapologetically rooting for "our guy's," over my lifelong pro team (Bear's).
Not a bone in my CMC body can root against Brock, Breece, Charlie, TJ, Hutch, Noel, David, Kene, Hummel, Porter, Higgin's, Lazard, McDonald IV, Rose, Harvey, Butler...

Back on topic. Expect T.J to produce next-level player's, tho I'd be surprised for any to produce at a SP's recruited TH level.
As well (pinch me x 100).
Purdy's n TH's long term contracts.
This ain't the Ames sport's-related universe, that I grew up with!

Going to Indiana thrust Hali out of his comfort zone and forced him to be the man of the team. I still think he would've been good on the Kings, but not the bonafide star he is becoming in Indiana. Also, being coached by Rick Carlisle vs the last several Kings coaches is a big step up. Overall, getting traded will likely end up being the best thing to ever happen for Tyrese
And no one really becomes a star in Sactown.

Thib’s is catching heat about messing with a lineup “that was working”.

The Pacers are shooting just under 50 percent from 3 in the time Towns is on the floor and yes there’s a direct correlation.

They had a star studded amazing team for a very brief few years in the early 00s and at least one known criminal ref stripped them of a championship. Then 20+ years of nothing. The play in games put the playoffs in reach but that can just be cruel.

I think he coached a pretty lousy game two and I’m not the kind of fan who typically blames the coach. (Refs and players sure haha)

The real fluke of the series is the 14 point run they had in game 1 with no Brunson. Pacers final minutes comebacks are common lately, Knicks 14-0 run without the guy who carries their offense is like a winning powerball ticket.

3* player!
Jfc.... I'm sick n tired of the * rankings.
I'm sick n tired of the well paid "expects."
Derailing this train, sorta. Jirhl B was a * or two ahead of Jet BH.
Toss in 3* McDonald IV.
We've THRIVED on 3* types, not so much on 4*'s,, no matter bb or fb.

Beyond Lazard, name me a Recent CLONE 4* that has next-level-succeeded.

I love Haliburton, but that was really cringey. He took about the worst shot possible, and got a really lucky bounce to make it, then did the choke sign because he thought it was a 3 for the win, not realizing they had only tied the game.
Really no more cringe worthy than Georges blowing kisses to the Iowa fans at the Morgue in Iowa City.

Oregon State game from 2019. Tyrese had a smile on his face the whole pre-game and during the game. In addition, there were some 4-6 year Olds around the court and he let one of them feed him a couple of passes while Tyrese shot the 3 ball. He is a genuine dude.
