Groomsmen Gifts

Alright so here's a situation for you guys:

I'm in my sister's wedding which is next week. Not as a groomsmen, not as an usher, but on my sister's side. Which makes me a ..... bridesmaid? I don't know, I've gotten enough flak over it for the last 6 months it doesn't faze me too much anymore.

Any guesses as to what I'm getting as my gift?

And while the situation is hilariously strange I have some excellent toast speeches formed already

Did you have to pay for your dress?

I did a pocket watch for my best man, beer mugs for the groomsmen, and shot glasses for the ushers. All engraved with their initials.

I know a lot of guys on here are married and I was just hoping for some suggestions on good gifts to give to my groomsmen. Obviously I don't want to spend a fortune but any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

Nothing says thanks like a good lap dance.....

(not from you of course)

I paid for my groomsmens/users/dad/fatherinlaw tuxes, mainly because I've been in a lot of weddings and paying for that sucks.

It was like $1500 when it was all over with, and it hung on the credit card for the first 9 months we were married - but its over now, and everybody appreciated the gesture.

that said, its definately the exception and not the rule to have your tux paid for .. and bridesmaid dresses? good luck, my wife has never heard of that occuring (we didn't either)

My wife is a bridesmaid in a wedding this fall. She will be 7 months pregnant at the time. So not only does she have to pay the $200 for the dress but also has to pay for the alterations to make it work. All for a dress that she will wear once.

I feel your pain. My wife was 7.5 months pregnant for the wedding this past weekend. Instead of measuring her normal and adding some material around the midsection, they estimated how big she would be around the midsection and ordered enough dress to cover that and had to alter everything else. My wife is not a large person and they ordered her something like a size 24 or something. Pre-altered, when she tried it on, the neck line literally was below her belly button.
Boo on Schaeffers.

That's no good, I'm sure the alterations were not cheap and didn't help the overall look of the dress if it was that big to begin with. Nothing like dumping that kinda cash on a one time dress.

I have some friends who run a web site with collegiate gifts and tailgating gear. There are a few great ideas for a groomsmen. Depending on the college your groomsmen went to, you could find the same gift for each school.

The only problem is the manufacturers haven't replaced the old ISU logo yet. But that should only matter if all of your groomsmen are ISU grads.

Take a look anyway, there's some cool stuff.

One wedding my wife was in had the bridesmaids wearing nice basic black dresses that could actually be worn for another event someday. Wait, maybe it was our wedding where they wore them. Hell who knows, I know that it happened. I was too busy watching my bride to notice the bridesmaids! Yeah, I think it was ours, but my wife has actually borrowed one to wear once. Its all very confusing.

I stand by my earlier statement that engraved crap is just that. Give it some thought or go with food/booze/tux. Its hard to sell engraved flasks as a garage sale.

We did the money clip thing for everyone, but we also put Best Buy gift cards in the clips. The groomsmen got bigger cards than the ushers.

Our son had personalized pub signs made for his groomsmen. They were a big hit. Mrs. yCy

I'm getting married in about 2 months and I was thinking about getting my groomsmen ISU footballs autographed by Coach Rhoads. I'm not sure what 5 footballs would cost, but I assume the autographs would be free.

I gave all my groomsmen a box of Omaha Steaks. For those who were flying in, I had the steaks mailed to their homes. They all enjoyed the unique gift.

I've got about 6 mugs with my name or initials on them somehow, which aren't very useful. Best ones I've gotten have been prepaid visa cards or best buy cards. Also the engraved flask full of Jack may have been the best.
