Groomsmen Gifts

But she looked like Vanessa Williams after a few beers.

I went into the Pro Image Gift shop at Valley West mall and got all my guys sweet stuff of their favorite teams. Very cool stuff in there.

Coolest gift I have ever recieved was a remote control car. But I assume that would be out of budget for most grooms. I think groomsmen in general just appreciate something, nothing fancy. Some thought goes a long way if you want to make each gift unique.

Did many of you have your groomsmen pay for their tuxedos? I've never understood that. My wife just had to pay for her first bridesmaid dress this summer and she's been in 7 or 8? I was pissed when I found out how much it cost.

I've never had my tuxedo paid for and I've been in about 6 weddings now. My wife has ALWAYS paid for bridesmaid dresses and shoes. I think it's more abnormal when the wedding party DOESN'T have to pay for their apparell, but that's just my experience.
When my wife and I were getting married, she dragged me to a Bridal Expo/Show - well, it turned out that Mens Wearhouse was there and they were offering all of their tuxes for $55, if you could guarantee 5 tuxes to be rented. That's almost $100 cheaper than regular price. Plus, since I had the 5, the groom's tux (mine) was free. So I figured I gave each groomsmen $100 towards tuxes. :)

If you're going to give them a flask, make sure you fill it with something first. Especially if you're going to take pictures between the wedding and the reception and making them stand around.

I just got a huge beer stein at my friend's wedding last weekend. Those come in handy when the best man decides he's going to throw up in the van on the way back to the hotel. Not that that happened or anything.

I paid for my groomsmens/users/dad/fatherinlaw tuxes, mainly because I've been in a lot of weddings and paying for that sucks.

It was like $1500 when it was all over with, and it hung on the credit card for the first 9 months we were married - but its over now, and everybody appreciated the gesture.

that said, its definately the exception and not the rule to have your tux paid for .. and bridesmaid dresses? good luck, my wife has never heard of that occuring (we didn't either)

Check to see if you have any connections to get discounts. A buddy's wife had an aunt that worked for Fossil. They gave all the groomsmen and bridesmaids watches for their wedding and got them for cheap. I have got enough beer mugs with my name on them. And how many flasks does one alcoholic need?

That's interesting about paying for tux's/dresses. Maybe my wife and I started a trend in our group of friends when we were the first to get married and paid for all of it. This wedding this past weekend was the first we paid for in the last 5 years since our own. For the amount of weddings we've been in the last 5 years, we'd be looking at least at a couple grand.
I thought it would be tacky to say "Hey, would you like to be in our wedding? It will only cost you $120" The dress my wife wore for the wedding we were in this past week was $350 before alterations.

I have been a groomsman many times and all the flasks and shotglasses are busy collecting dust in a box in my garage. The best gift I got was a "Leatherman micra" that can attach to a keychain. Talk about handy the only time I don't have it on me is when I fly anywhere. It has a 1 1/2" knife that can apparently be used to hijack and airplane.

Well, considering the 9/11 terrorists did it with boxcutters, I'd consider 1 1/2" knives much more threatening than that. But yeah, that is one awesome gift.

I got one of these when I was in my brother's wedding about 4 years ago. Definitely a nice thing to have.

A few weeks ago I was in a friend's wedding and got a nice Columbia leather wallet.

Alright so here's a situation for you guys:

I'm in my sister's wedding which is next week. Not as a groomsmen, not as an usher, but on my sister's side. Which makes me a ..... bridesmaid? I don't know, I've gotten enough flak over it for the last 6 months it doesn't faze me too much anymore.

Any guesses as to what I'm getting as my gift?

And while the situation is hilariously strange I have some excellent toast speeches formed already
