Oddly him, Norm and Bob I think were all really good friends.

They absolutely were but everybody was good friends with Norm. There were things about Norm that he kept under wraps to preserve his career but have kind of leaked out since his death.

And it was all part of the act. Go watch one of his old SNL clips and prepare to be amazed. I don’t know how he figured it out, but his stand-up was pummeling you with jokes while he pummeled you with the voice. I’m a late arrival to fandom, but really fell in love with his work over the last few years.

They always had him on MTV Spring Break in the 90s. He was totally out of place with all the bikini girls but I remember thinking he was hilarious, at least to my 12-16 year old sense of humor.
