Gallagher dead at 76.

Really interesting clip with him on O&A talking with Patrice. Gained a lot of respect for him from that.

Opposite: I heard him on Maron’s show and walked away thinking he was an unfunny miserable SOB whose story sounded great until subjected to only the slightest scrutiny.

I've never seen his act except for some clips of him smashing things. For some reason I have the impression he is a miserable sob. Maybe it was this, or the thing with his brother. Who knows.

Now fight, and the winner shall determine Gallagher's legacy.

Life as a one gimmick comic has to be soul crushing.

The audience is waiting for it, all you think is "I have hated doing this stupid part for the last 25 years. He I go again,...".

Total self-loathing in front of an adoring audience.

You can put up with a lot when the money is rolling in.

The conversation/clip of the conversation was interesting. Re the bolded, are you sure you weren't just listening to Maron?

It was a battle of various perspectives. Gallgher got his feelings hurt, Patrice went a little over the line. Made for good radio.

Gallgher had a much more "vaudeville" you do the act, it's about entertaining the audience, Patrice had a borderline "when keeping it real goes wrong" attitude throughout his career. Believe he's been vindicated post homously, but his attitude and bottled anger/pain kept him from a lot of opportunities.

Not saying one is right/better than the other, but the exchange had me see some things I hadn't considered.
