I was pretty excited about it but listening to Miller same Condon they kinda downplayed how good he really is.

From their show: not an elite shooter, not elite defensively based on some metric that Condon looked up. They did say he does add toughness.

Those guys don't seem like they focus on college basketball enough to have any in-depth assessment worth noting.

About adding another guard...

Hunter
Kalscheur
Hinson
Transfer (yet to be named)
Foster

First off the bench
Kunc
Grill
Conduit
Jones

If we can get those two forwards we are supposedly looking at (Fletcher, and Enaruna) that would be a no-brainer. If not not we should pick up another PG/CG, and another F (one of above would be fantastic).

Buggs might be a good fit (if Buggs wants and TJ agrees); he would be a 1 year get. Would he want to come? Drew Buggs Stats, News, Bio | ESPN

Or, perhaps one of the guards mentioned in posts #1-2 here (or other)
Otzelberger's First Recruiting/Transfer Class (List in #1 and #2 posts) | CycloneFanatic: The Internet's most popular site for fans of the Iowa State Cyclones

So unless Jackson and Walker can take a big step, I think you have to get another guard to help Freshman Hunter, and Kalscheur, Grill rotation.

Why wouldn't Jackson as a Junior and Walker as a Sophomore be ready for a back up combo guard role? We only looking to fill 20ish minutes a game between the two, at some point they need to step up.

Lol you both want the last word. It's why you both keep responding

This is why we need a Festivus Pole Thread to export these fights off to...

Has anybody talked about Javon Johnson? Is he still on the team? If so he will be a RS Sr next year, potentially 2 years remaining?

Maybe he will find a new gear with a new coach/system?

He’ll play. He could even start unless we get a homerun transfer, which obviously is the goal with at least one if not the last two scholarships.

Anyway, really like the Gabe pickup, and am happy with the job so far by TJ and the staff. I get that maybe the transfers coming in aren’t a net talent gain vs Bolton and JCL. But it seems like Bolton staying wasn’t going to happen, and maybe the same goes for JCL. Ultimately in the matter of a few days they landed a starter quality wing got some other depth pieces, and accomplished Job #1 - retaining Hunter and Foster. If they are able to land one starter quality scoring wing the roster starts looking pretty solid. The fact that the cornerstone guys are a freshman and a Sophomore coming off injury my expectations aren’t very high, but Gabe is an experienced guy and captain that is going to bring some much needed maturity. Lots of “ifs”- Foster stays healthy and develops, Hinson is as good as advertised, Hunter adjusts quickly, Gabe gets his shot back, and Conditt rediscovers his Freshman energy with more polish. But it should be a fun season seeing how this plays out.

Obviously Foster is the future at C, but Conditt can be good when used to his strength. And who knows, maybe Green can develop him for when he needs to play like how Prohm wanted to use him. He was a beast playing for team Porta Rico.

This is my hope. Green has been pretty solid developing inside guys at UNI. If he can continue to do that ISU, it would really change the recent history of this team.

His game needs a full makeover if he's going to see the floor.

Of course, and we are all hoping that. Still a little thin at guard IMO, and must build team allowing for injury, next man up.

Disagree. He just needs to be put in positions that emphasize his strengths and minimize his weaknesses.
He needs to stop trying to make his own offense. Let Hunter bring it to him and focus on defense and rebounding. Thus total makeover.

He needs coached and a stern talking to after bad plays. Especially when multiple happen. Not a green light and a “God be good those shots will start to fall”.

I think we're basically on the same page just slightly different interpretations.

Did Porter get fired from Loyola?
No but i’m guessing he does from oklahoma at some point.

Every coach at a p5 was successful at a lower level. It’s a zero sum game. Hopefully we are in the right side of the equation but it’s hard to forecast success when guys step up.

Until that happens, we probably shouldn’t poo poo the Final Four he got at his job before Oklahoma.
