One time at work, a coworker told me I seemed like a cat person. I had never really considered the question before that, but I was instantly very mildly offended. I am firmly a dog person. Like most young girls, I had a phase when I was enamored with cats when I was in elementary school, but I love the affability and loyalty of dogs. They are so much more interactive, by and large.

Are you a cat or a dog person? Why is that, and do you have any stories related to it? Or are you team rabbit, team parrot, something else altogether?

Grew up a cat person. Still am a huge cat person but also equally a dog person. I love animals in general. I want them all.

I can see that. :D

Honestly I am more of a cat person, especially the more I age as I dont want so many responsibilities. Cats pretty much maintain on their own. Dogs are more needy. My cats who passed away some years ago now, were super loyal and loving. Not sure Ill catch lightning like that again, but they were great. Our dog now is my buddy, I ddint want a dog, but the kids did and she somehow clung to me and its been inseparable ever since. Shes a good egg and will defend me against anyone who tries to steal me away for something, its hilarious. BUT, she require so much more maintenance so when she passes down the road, I will be taking a break from pets for a bit.

Cat person. They are interactive, just less needy than dogs. I had dogs growing up, but they were outside dogs. I can't stand the smell of a house that has dogs.

We had cats when we were too busy to take care of dogs. After all the replaced carpets that smelled like cat urine, the cat vomit, vet bills, and the cat litter we no longer wanted to have cats.

We have dogs now and love them but it's harder to travel on short notice.

We definitely have huge travel considerations with dogs. You can’t just have a neighbor kid come throw some food in a bowl once every other day.

Dog person. Used to be a dog person who thought cats were ok, until my ISU roommate's cat attacked me when his food bowl was empty. Now I despise all cats.

Spouse and I are pet people, and have owned birds, rats, mice, and dogs.

I'm not the biggest fan of cats due to folks who haven't maintained their spaces and letting them pee all over and having participated in the resulting destruction/construction to fix it.

We have one dog at the moment, and travel can be tricky. Family sometimes help, otherwise we've found a good, reliable, and affordable pet service that can visit our house while we are away for a weekend. It works better than a kennel for us, as the dog will actually eat, and gets to enjoy the yard space she loves.

I have had both and love them both, cats were much easier to plan around travel than dogs, however nothing beats a dog's love. My bond with my beagle Max is unmatched, he just always makes me smile and is always with me in the house. Never had that type of bond with a cat.

Always been a dog person. I was raised with them always around and have had 3 long term dogs as an adult. I understand their psychology and know how to train them to not be annoying (mostly - they still always have a bit of an independent/stubborn streak) and they are clean. (I learned the secret of non-shedding dogs after the first one.)

Travel can be a challenge. I take him with me when half-way practical. Fortunately my vehicle has remote start on an app, so I can leave him in the car for short periods as long as I set the timer to restart if I'm inside more than 10 minutes on a hot day. But he's content to stay home alone as long as there's a nice treat in his cage as I walk out the door.

As someone who struggles with my weight having a dog and walking several times a day (3-5 miles) weather permitting, is a factor. If you start out regularly walking your dog, you will NOT be allowed to miss a day, or even a single walk. They are such creatures of habit!

And with dog owning siblings nearby we dog sit each other's pets when we travel overnight or for vacations.

I was never a cat person, but a good friend in FL is. She has two - one that is friendly and the other I've only seen twice as it hides when I visit. I do like the one but the scaredy-cat seems pointless. The 'good' one does climb on the screens, scratches the furniture and jumps up on the counters where the food is; all behaviors I find quite off-putting. Also, her place occasionally smells of cat urine and poop.

I've liked one cat in my life and it was the one my parents got my sister. Other than that one, I don't really care for cats. To like dogs is to like their owner. Crappy dog owner = crappy dog. I don't have any pets as an adult and I'm completely fine with that lol.

I'm a cat person for sure. Just much more chill. Dogs are like extroverts constantly needing attention.

We have a cheweenie though, and I love the crap out of him. He is our Chief of (In)Security.

But when he passes I won't want another dog, they are a lot of work and much harder to deal with if you want to go on vaca or even just a late night out. Having a dog is a lot like having a toddler, and in my 50s I have NO use for that. Cats you can put on ignore for a while and they dgaf.

I am a dog person, Mrs. Velo is a cat person so we have no pets. Well that is until daughter left for Iowa State two years ago and we inherited her gecko...

I'm okay not having pets so we don't have a ton of planning to do around them when we go away. We can leave for the weekend and the gecko is fine until we get back.
