Friday OT - Have At It

I have been sucked into the bizarro world that is my local school board politics and drama of our building PTO. Did I expect pushback when joining the PTO with an eye for change? Yep. Did I expect contract fraud and outright lying and gaslighting the membership? With half the board totes cool with that? No, I did not.

A fascinating thing to watch several years ago was someone who ran for MMSD school board and once they got in basically turned around put the coals to teachers to blame for about anything publically to basically turn the temp up for chaos.

Sadly I now take anything they say with a grain of salt.

I feel like my district is in the news 1x a week right now or more. You've probably seen a bunch of it. Maybe you saw me on the news last week!

Birthdays are ridiculous.

Maybe it's cool if you're a child, but you aren't a child. There's an entire birthday arms race around here too. Stop. Just stop.

I did nothing except stay alive. That isn't worth a ******* cake and embarrassing singing.

Once a person hits double digits the birthday should be ended.

Going to disagree because a good friend gave me a bottle of champagne for my birthday last week. Just sayin'. :)

Confession:

I've been going to the gym M-W-F after work before coming home. Wednesday, I had a particularly crappy day at work. I got to the gym and took a minute to chill before going inside. I checked my phone and my friend had sent me a link to a funny TikTok. I then proceeded to watch videos for 45 minutes.

I never went inside the gym and just drove home.

My wife asked how my workout was, and I said, "It was good"

We should totally assign you reps up and down the stadium stairs. Slacker! o_O

BTW, "gym" does relate to something annoying to me, young dudes watching videos between their sets. Rather than 1 minute between sets they take at least 2, sometimes more. They probably brag latter about their "3 hour workout" that could have been done in less that 90 minutes. They waste a LOT of time.

Did run into a nice guy the other day that noticed me waiting for a machine and asked if I wanted to work in since he was doing 3 minutes rests. I was able to get in two sets during his rest. Well, at half his weights, my hamstrings would have torn apart at more than half the weight he was doing!

Just going off the gift giving posts in this thread, my 10 year wedding anniversary is next Friday, and I'm strugggggggggggggling for a gift.

I really despise the gift giving expectation of Christmas, frankly. It creates this financial burden and just adds pressure to that whole season. It really distracts people from what matters, IMO, and just makes the whole experience less enjoyable.

That's a big part of why I prefer Thanksgiving considerably.
My wife's family does this with a $30 limit, so we end up trading $30 gift cards to various places. Complete waste of time.

A friend of mine use to work in human resource for the Cedar Rapids school district. How ever corrupt it looks from the outside, it's even worse. Just an example, there are people who sign up as assistant coaches for athletic teams, because it includes an extra stipend, but don't show up for a single practice or game. It's like a no-show job and everyone internally knows it.

That's terrible. At both the school my daughter went to and the school my son goes to we did/do a ton of fundraising to pay for assistant coaches. The school district pays for the head coach but all of the assistant coaches the team booster club has to foot. When your school has 5 girls soccer teams or 200+ athletes on the track team that is a lot of assistant coaches to pay.

I generally agree with you, but my Cyclone hating, rabid hawkeye SIL drew my name for Christmas a few years ago when we tried a gift exchange and she got me an awesome black leaning Cy ball cap. I love it. It probably had to just about kill her to buy it.
