I have a stepdaughter too, though acquired in the more "traditional" way. Her dad has always been a selfish, manipulative pos. Her stepmom treated her TERRIBLE and lesser than her bio kids. Like Cinderella but real life, many examples but i cant write a novel on my phone.
Im not any super dad, but have just been decent to her and she has been great. Never been a teen girl nightmare, very mature, no booze or boy problems. We tease each other some and its great. Im not exactly her dad, but i am 100% sure she would come to me first with anything big or small. And now she is tight with my (much older) bio daughter and those two are a gd handful lol.
So i guess my rambling point is maybe just accepting someones kid, you get a lot of good karma back in that bond. You had a REALLY big ask on that, mine was a lot easier. But the payback is still priceless. So i am glad you have her and she brings you joy.
