Fun race, should be fun going forward. Mercedes improving better than expected. Verstappen's driving and Red Bulls strategy keeping them in races plus McLarens strategy holding them back.
It blows my mind. They saved a medium for that exact situation and then they didn't use it.McLaren making Ferrari from a few seasons ago type decisions today
Had to feel good for Lewis. The Red Bull dominance officially feels over.
In defense of McClaren (I don't know why, I don't really care) but, they did say at the start of the race that it takes McClaren quite a bit to get the medium tires into the optimum range. So, my guess is they figured their only shot was to go with the soft tire to cover Lewis, since he went soft. I don't fault the tire choice for the situation as much as I do them waiting an extra lap to pit Lando. That, imo is what really cost them the race. Lando killed those tires in the first few laps after the pit, trying to get to Lewis. I think if Lando pits at the same time as everyone else, it doesn't matter what tire he's on, he keeps the lead. Clean air does wonders for saving tire life.It blows my mind. They saved a medium for that exact situation and then they didn't use it.
They pit Lando a lap too late and then Lando missed his mark losing at least 2 seconds, that was the race. After those two mistakes I don’t think soft vs medium mattered much.It blows my mind. They saved a medium for that exact situation and then they didn't use it.

Mercedes has had their share of shockers, I remember at least a few about putting on wrong tire compounds or pitting Lewis and then he’s like wtf did we just do?Mercedes always seems to make right decisions and generally Red Bull does as well. Mercedes don’t always win but it seem race day decisions always give their drivers the best chance to place high

Merc is a typically over conservative but solid. For a long time they still ran it as thought they had the best car on the grid. Red Bull always nails it.Mercedes has had their share of shockers, I remember at least a few about putting on wrong tire compounds or pitting Lewis and then he’s like wtf did we just do?
We never got to hear who made the call I don't think, but they presented it to Lando in a very strange way. Something like "softs to cover Hamilton or Mediums to cover Verstappen", well of course he wants to go after Hamilton in that spot, Verstappen wasn't really a factor at that point. His engineer should never have even suggested the softs.I wonder if some of it comes down to driver experience. Lewis called off inters early in the race when Leclerc and Sergio took them, and I assume from the radio we heard it was Lando’s call for the softs at the end.
They need to figure it out, they’ve been faster than RB for awhile now and don’t have a whole lot to show for it.
Well it’s clear that Ferrari can make a decent car but development over the course of the season is an issue. I’d guess this is more of a career having run its course. Is this the beginning of some fallout for being a clown show in Maranello or just a guy retiring?
