For me, the key for Melvin next year is to up his minutes played from slightly under 27 to over 32. If the does that, and keeps the same points/40mins ratio, he'll up his scoring to 13ppg. I expect the offense to run through Niang most of the time next year, and that he'll be in the 15ppg range. I think it's reasonable to thing that Niang averages 15, Ejim 13 and Thomas 12.
I just don't see a freshman averaging more than 12. This may be a bit high, but I see Nik Stauskas at Michigan as the ceiling for Thomas next year, and he's averaging 12 & 3boards with a 1:1 asst:to ratio. I think that's a reasonable high-end expectation.
Scoring will not usually be a concern with Fred's teams. Next year we'll have enough fire power to win games.
It will boil down to defense and rebounding IMO. Will will be tough to replace on the boards. Hopefully Edozie and/or Armardi/Hogue can make up some of the ground there.
Babb will be a tough loss also but we could end up being better defensively as a team IMO

Does anyone know why SDW was redshirted and not Okoro? Okoro has only been getting scrub minutes this year. In the exhibition games I thought SDW could produce more this year than Okoro. Obviously Okoro has a more Big 12 ready body, but he still has played very limited minutes. Anyone reason we didn't redshirt both?
Hopefully no one takes this as an Okoro bashing. He's just a freshman and I think he will play a solid role down the road.

The difference between Stauskas this year and Thomas next year is that this years Michigan team has so many more options than our next years team will. On this years Michigan team you have Burke, Hardaway, Robinson and McGary. Next year, I think the offense will run through Niang and Thomas. Those will be the two main scoring options next year. I could see both averaging around 14-15 point per game.

Could be a combination of wanting to even out classes more, SDW wanted to RS and Okoro didn't, and then also Okoro having family problems and by then it was too late to RS?
This would be my guess. He may have seen more minutes, but his development and focus was probably and understandably affected by his Father and Brothers' deaths. Have to admire his ability to stay positive. It sounds like his brother was a big influence on him.

Well, you could argue that a couple ways. If you have even two great perimeter defenders, which is rare, you are definitely putting one on Burke and likely putting the other one on Hardaway. IMO, Stauskas really took advantage of the worst perimeter defender on the other team. Then teams started keying on him instead of Hardaway and he has definitely come back to earth. It's likely Thomas will draw the best perimeter defender every time out. That will hurt him and help others. I do think Thomas' skill set is very similar to Stauskas but he is a touch smaller. If he has a season like STauskas is having, that would be awesome. Then you add SDW, who was also offered by the same guy who took Hardaway when he was under the radar, took Burke who was under the radar at the time, and the of course Stauskas. Pairing the results Beilen has had with the results Hoiberg has had, especially from their perimeter players, gives me a lot of comfort in SDW. Can you imagine a SDW, Stauskas, Thomas backcourt? That **** could have happened. Let's hope a PG can step in and give us some quality management.
SDW needed to develop more in terms of strength and weight gain whereas Okoro needed to develop his basketball skillset more.
