Do you wash your meat?

I used to rinse chicken. Then about 10 years ago the thing about how that spreads the nasties throughout your kitchen sink area kind of turned me off to the idea.

I still usually do it but gently.

I have butchered chickens and there's a good chance there may be some nasty stuff flying around in the process, so I kind of like the idea that if there's some small amount of chicken poop on there, that I've removed it. Probably all just justifying it in my head.

Sometimes a pork chop will seem a bit slimy coming out of the package and I'll rinse them before seasoning and grilling.

Remember to trim along with washing

If I drop it on the floor. What are you washing off anyway? Dead animal particles off a slab of dead animal? Whole thing is kinda gross if you think about it too much. Next time you're enjoying a nice cold glass of milk think about what you're actually drinking. Might as well crawl up under a cow and start sucking. Wash it if it makes you feel better I guess.

Yeah washing it in the sink just gets bacteria all over your sink and probably improves your chances of sickness.

Interestingly enough, washing meat is NOT a proper health practice - it's actually recommended not to. Dawn is also not an observed product for proper disinfection as it doesn't kill bacteria.

I don’t wash generally. But if there are some blood drops like in chicken. And when I do I just rinse off under purified water tap. Don’t splash. And thoroughly clean. I am aware of bacteria spread. This goes for all foods. Clean your counters with a good disinfectant before processing your food. And after.

Food safety dictates that you don’t wash any meat due to potentially spreading bacteria.

And with fish, washing/rinsing the filet also allows me to check and remove any pin bones that are in there.
