Purposely provocative thread title, but I am generally curious...

I saw a social media post of someone cooking steaks on a flat top grill, and she opened up a package of steaks and put them right on the grill. The comments were filled with people outraged/disgusted that she didn't wash the steaks first.

I've never done this, but apparently people do? What are your thoughts?

Washing meat before cooking...

Only if brining counts as washing. Roasts and tougher steaks get a nice soaking.

I rinse a pork butt before I pat dry and put mustard/rub on, but can't say I've rinsed anything else really - just cryovac stuff.

No, I don’t rinse any of my meats in water. I will sometimes pat them dry if I need a sear on them.

People tell me nobody can beat my meat, but they love my rubbed butt.

I will run ribs under warm water to help thaw them and remove the membrane on rib section. Does putting an ice cube on top of a burger before putting it the grill count?

Chicken that is still on the bone is the only thing I rinse off before cooking. The skin and crevases are a good place for bacteria to hide and I don't trust that packing plants do a thorough job before they package it. Plus chicken is one meat I dont take chances with under cooking either. Any other proteins should be fine out of the package that dont require any additional rinsing.
