Dendy is back on campus

well part of it was that originally his plane ticket was for a Wednesday return. Iowa State can pay for the ticket out and back, but when the funeral got moved back to Thursday( I assume because of weather), the return ticket was no longer valid and NCAA rules don't allow Iowa State to exchange it for another one.

Yes they do - Mac said so yesterday. He said had Dendy bothered to call Iowa State after he learned of the funeral delay, Iowa State could have gotten a return flight ticket to him. The problem was Dendy had to inform them prior to the time of his return flight, and he didn't do that.

No offense but how did this kid get into college? Maybe there should be an academic review done here as well. It could open up a scholarship....:dull:

I take offense to the Michael Nurse sucking comment. He was hit by a truck and came back and played within a week. He had one of the greatest performances ever while coming off the bench and beating western illinois in a great game. While limping with stitches in.

I think he was probably referring to the year before, when he was forced to play point guard. He was not very good in that role.

Completely awesome as a shooting guard, though, and no one questions his toughness, having taken on a car and still played!

Thank you! exactly my point. I believe LE was even trying to push him out.

I hope someday, when a family member of yours dies, a bunch of people who do know you from jack don't start judging how you should act and what you should do. Too many of you are expecting Dendy to act how you want him rather than respecting what is going on in his life. Do you really think with him there we were going to be KU?

Heck I would like to see Coach Mac get this pationate while coaching a game.

I just gotta say, the coaches sign up for the criticism for lack of success based on the salaries they draw...the players - thats another story. This week alone we get to critique the virtues of whether a kid selling his pink uniform is moral, whether a kid going to a family funeral and not returning as quickly has originally planned, etc, etc, etc. Just my two cents, I understand the whole value of the scholarship, the revenue in this sport is highly weighted to the University and the coaches - not the players. Let them live their lives and cheer for them on Game Day!

OK - but Gmac himself said of Dendy at his presser yesterday: "He's been down there too long, in my opinion."

I missed the quote from Gmac, but I wouldn't agree with it if he said it. Frustration on his part I would guess but really no reason to call the kid out to the fan base, manage the situation and get him back here and keep the team's business with the team.

I hope he can keep up with his classes. It's already difficult when you miss so many classes due to competition.

Ya, frustration in the fact that Dendy didn't notify him immediately when he knew the funeral was moved. That part seems kind of irresponsible to me, especially when he knew of the death, I believe, before the KSU game and played in that. Contrary to some peoples beliefs, D1 basketball is the real world. It is a billion dollar industry. It is not the same as it was 10 years ago. In the real world you are responsible for letting your boss know what is going on. I have said this before, I have no problem with him being gone as long as he was. I do have a problem with not letting anyone know what is going on. I think Mac senses a lack of commitment to his team and therefor did not go the extra length to help Dendy get back. I think this was a test to see if he would get himself back. I do not know the rules on the ticket thing. I don't know if they can provide more than one. If Mac truly couldn't get a ticket for him, well then my theory is wrong, but otherwise I think I would have handled that the same way.

Agreed. His statements regarding a)Brackin's pro potential and b)being "betrayed" by 20 year old kids as well as several instances of calling out players in the press has been somewhat disconcerting considering he is supposed to be the adult and mentor.

I know people do this all the time and some quite successfully - but blaming the employee or the player just doesn't work for me - in my job I have responsibility for several employees, if one of them isn't pulling his or her weight, I address it with that person and/or that person's supervisor and then follow up to ensure accountability. I would never call a team meeting and then call out the inviduals that weren't there nor would I make excuses to my boss about people that I am responsible for...Some personalities can do that and be quite successful, Gmac doesn't strike me as that kind of person though, he is probably just feeling the pressure and managing expectations for the fans if a player isn't able to meet his expectations based on the history of defections.
