They are not comparable players. They play completely different roles.

Sure, but you only have 40 minutes to divide up. You can’t play everyone.

Obviously weird he didnt play garbage time so there’s something there probably as far as injury is concerned

I went back and forth with some people on Twitter about this earlier. Why are we so damn obsessed with a player that hasn’t showed a ton? Obviously there is a reason he isn’t playing. We are extremely talented and deep this year. He isn’t good enough otherwise TJ would be playing him. That’s it. There are others who TJ believes are better, and it doesn’t have to be more than that. This gets so old every year.

I must be missing any of the people obsessed with this (on here or on Twitter). And a lot of the questions (not necessarily concerns) have more to do with him not getting 2 minutes over walk ons. Unless you're saying he's not as good as Kelderman and Fish, your "he isn't good enough" comment doesn't apply.

Again - not seeing anyone obsessed or even concerned. Why is it so terrible that people are curious about it?

Whose mins are you going to take away to give Watson time on the floor?

Unfortunate thing about Watson’s situation is this program has out grown him. He’s a good player with unique skills but limited offensively. Jefferson and Milan could be back next year, if MM declares we probably add a forward with range. Really no room for another non post forward because big guards that can shoot are always going to eat a good portion of the three.

Likely transfers we add a big ( Rock doesn’t look like a guy that will contribute next year) veteran guard ( athletic Gilbert type) and a forward with range if Milan leaves.

He seems happy on the bench. Not just the “clap and appear supportive” kind either - the real kind.

It’s possible that TJ and him are good with a mutually beneficial situation of a really good practice player that helps APR, that also gets a free degree.

No idea why he wouldn’t have played against Colorado. Don’t care

I think he's saving his 4 games for a redshirt year :jimlad:

Also, jfc people. It's ok to ask why a guy didn't get in when everyone else did. Literally no one is freaking out or questioning TJ. It's just a genuine curiosity. I'm a big fan of Watson and was hoping to see him get some run. I think it's interesting he didn't get to play at all but I'm sure he and TJ know what's going on

I don't get why Watson didn't play at all either. I am assuming he is practicing and going to class. Don't get why he can't be rewarded for a few minutes in a blowout. Coach could have subbed the starters out a few minutes earlier, wouldn't have made a difference in the game.

You never know about the garbage time not playing. Maybe it’s a potential redshirt, but it could also be that TJ wants the rotation wing newcomers, Heise and Nojas need every minute they can get.

Watson seems like a great teammate. If needed he can come in and contribute like he did last year.

As for not being a rotation guy, it sounds good to say you’ll play him due to defense and get the offense from the other four. But that still limits your offense too much.

He can’t redshirt as was covered earlier. Also it’s Fish and Kelderman playing rather than him to close the game out that’s curious, not the other two.

They still need somebody to play PG even in the last two mins. With Fish, who knows. At that point, what would Watson get out of it? Not enough of a real situation to learn much for a veteran guy. So might as well let Fish and Rock see the floor.

I forgot that he can’t RS. Time flies.

This is what makes me wonder abt it. He is super athletic and we dont have tons of that. He showed last year how useful he could be situationally, mostly defensively but a little on offense too as kind of a smaller Tre King garbage man cutter.

Instead its lots of Heise and even Indrusaitis. Im sure theres a reason, but idk what it is. Hopefully it’s all good.
Watson is not on the same planet as those other two offensively. Heise is a good wing defender, and Nojus has good length and athleticism, just needs to take some lumps. He’s already making great strides defensively.

I get coaches talk about defense, rightfully so. But it’s really hard to play well with a guy that won’t shoot, won’t dribble, and won’t make a pass outside of a safe pass back out 30’ from the basket. Analytics showed that our offense took a huge hit when he played, the OU game being the exception.

It makes it really hard for other guys to score and get in the lane. Also, a wing and a 4 are positions you have to get offense from. At least some.

Every year there is one guy where the fans ask “why isn’t he playing?”

Tristan Enuruna
Terrence Lewis
Xavier Foster
Omaha
Etc

Sometimes a player just isn’t as good as the other players on the team. Trust the coaches.
Demarion has definitely proven he can play the last few years and not like a lot on this list.

It does not make any sense why Watson didn't see minutes in the Colorado game. Speculating why is also completely fine for us fans to do, and what else would we talk about after a 30 point victory? Many of us, including me, would've loved to have seen him get some tick.

With all of that said, there's definitely a legitimate reason why he's not playing. Watson is obviously better than our walkons and Fish, and he's earned a right to see minutes in blowouts. He's either banged up and can't go full contact yet, there's a disciplinary reason (not bad enough to get suspended though), or he's transferring at the semester.

He can't redshirt under the current rules. But we've learned over the past few years that rules change. So maybe the staff is anticipating a rule change and are limiting his games.

Also, playing 2 minutes in a 30 point game might have meaning to a Fish or Kelderman because they have zero chance of playing other than mop up in blowouts. Whereas, the staff knows Watson's talent and he has nothing to show/prove in the last 2 minutes that he doesn't in practice every day.

Damnit - I am a legendary couch coach, and I need to understand why one of my players does not play. How can I plan my overall game strategy without such knowledge - I may have to demote my fellow cushion huggers!
