I also asked if if he was hurt too, not because he’s not getting big minutes but because he got skipped over on the bench in the Colorado game
It's weird. Some people can't seem to grasp that a fan can be perfectly fine with how the team is playing and how the coaches are coaching while also wondering why a guy who has been on the team for 3 years and contributed in the past isn't getting minutes ahead of the walk-ons. If you're not curious about Watson fine, ignore the thread. But to come in the thread and get mad about it is just being an @sshole.

He’s in the G league and made the Netherlands national roster for the upcoming FIBA qualifiers….think he turned out to be a pretty good basketball player.
Agree. Enaruna actually still one of the most talented players in the TJ era. That first matchup against a Top 5 Baylor team, he was the best player on the floor that day. Just must not have been a good fit mentally for a full season and off-season of TJ’s program.

People are regularly saying that he played solid minutes last year, but I'm seeing that he didn't even average 10 minutes a game and those were basically defensive minutes. He had that 15 point outburst against OU but even including that he averaged under 2 points a game.

My random uneducated guess is that TJ might just want the team to be better offensively and it might be worth giving those minutes to guys who can score, even if there's a slight dip in defense. Slight dip meaning still probably top 15 nationally.

As far as why he's not getting minutes when we're up 30, I guess that's valid to wonder, but it's also garbage time so I just don't think it matters a ton either way. Also, since they're playing 3 games in 3 days after a sparse schedule up to now, he might also want to keep the newer guys in as much as he can to properly get them into the groove of playing his system before conference play starts. As has been said a ton already, we're a deep team, and if Watson was getting minutes we'd be wondering why someone like one of our new transfers wasn't.

His defense was bad. That team needed elite defensive cohesiveness to be successful and he was not even close.

Here's the thing that people don't seem to get. I know at least for myself it isn't real concern over Watson, but wanting to be able to properly evaluate expectations. Do we have a long athletic wing available as an option or is he not an option right now.

Say he is out for the year with an injury that isn't the end of the world, by any means. With that said it is something to factor into our expectations.
I guess I don’t understand why people care.

Indrusitis took Watsons minutes this year and is light years ahead offensively as a freshman than Watson is as a junior without a huge drop defensively. Guys get recruited over, and that’s what we are seeing right now I’d guess.

All of this may he true, but it still doesn't explain why the Kellderman/ Rock/ Fish trio got to play a couple garbage minutes and he didn't.

They even have Watson sitting before those 3 guys on the bench during games.

I think we had this discussion about this time last season when Watson played 10mpg against the first few low NET teams and then barely played in Kissimmee Tournament, DePaul & Iowa.

It is curious Watson didn't play 2 minutes mop-up yesterday. Not sure Kelderman and Rock getting minutes is relevant as Watson isn't a PG or C. I would have thought he could have played alongside or instead of Fish. But it's more important Indrusaitis and Heise play minutes when the moments arise.

The reality is despite ISU being up by close to 30 pts. the last 8 minutes, TJ stayed with his core 9 players until the 2 minute mark. Which is probably reasonable as ISU only played 3 games before Hawaii and my guess he's prepping for Marquette & Iowa.

I don't understand why some of you care so much about those of us who are curious about what's going on with him.

Why I care is pretty simple. He has been with the team for 3 years now, seems like a good guy, a good teammate, and has shown a lot of loyalty to the program. IMO it's perfectly natural to wonder why he is the only player who didn't log a minute yesterday.

They are not comparable players. They play completely different roles.

They are different players from a skill perspective, but Indrusaitis & Watson are competing for the same minutes as the 9th man in the rotation. Unlike last year, don't see the game situations where Watson is going to get minutes over Jefferson or Momcilovic

And I get the feeling over the next few weeks Heise and Indrusaitis are going to be competing for who is the 8th man in a mainly 8 man rotation during the Big12 season. Heise being the leader in the clubhouse because of his experience and strong defense.

He wasn’t good enough to play for us.
Ya I guess my point in my original post is that I wouldn’t label him as a bust, and bucket him with folks like T-Lew, Xavier Foster, and Omaha. He clearly had potential when he played here. And objectively speaking, he has turned out to be a pretty good bball player.

He’s not in the rotation. I hope everyone enjoys their time here and are good teammates but how garbage time minutes are distributed is not something I spend time thinking about.

That’s fair. There’s things I care about that you probably don’t and I’d be better off not caring about.
