On one hand I chuckle, because we do this every year with at least one player, even when the teams humming.

On the other hand, it is odd that he gets zero minutes over the walk ons. We know he’s athletic enough to make a difference.

There was one home game last year (?) where he had a breakout performance that basically saved us in a bad game. Can’t remember.

We know TJ sets clear expectations with the guys, so hopefully it’s not an attitude problem behind the scenes. Probably some sort of injury.

Versus Oklahoma.

15 points, 7-7 from the field, including a 3.

Pure speculation, but it could be that he's fine with his role and comfortable in the program. Maybe he has relationships he's not eager to leave behind. Maybe he doesn't have a strong desire to play major minutes somewhere. Lots of possibilities. There are a lot worse spots for a kid to spend their college years. He's been here awhile now and has certainly contributed to the program in his role. If I'm TJ, it's extremely valuable to have a tenured guy like him at the end of the bench.

He scored 15 at home against OU. It was a horrible game where no one else could get anything going offensively. If he doesnt go off that one may have been a loss.

Can’t speak for anyone else, but I’m curious about how a kid who seems like a really good, hard worker is doing? Is he hurt? Is he looking to redshirt and transfer out?

There is no second guessing the coaches or anything like that. For me it is just genuine interest in what’s going on with a kid who I want to succeed after watching him for a couple seasons.
They may be looking to RS him and continue to work with him on fixing his outside shot mechanics/confidence.

I think it (naturally) gets overassumed that players now just want to get theirs and are always looking elsewhere.

TJ has shown that there are players that buy in to the rugged practices and real connection with one another.

What CF evidently needs is a disclaimer that repeatedly states a mbb player can't redshirt after playing any minutes unless granted a medical.

Humans have a need to argue so we'll find the dumbest stuff to do so about.
Wow, some of you guys are way off base this morning. It has nothing to do with "wanting to argue".

Some of us are just curious why a seemingly good kid and decent player all of a sudden cant even see garbage time minutes with walk-ons.

Hines with the rare good take.

Here's the thing that people don't seem to get. I know at least for myself it isn't real concern over Watson, but wanting to be able to properly evaluate expectations. Do we have a long athletic wing available as an option or is he not an option right now.

Say he is out for the year with an injury that isn't the end of the world, by any means. With that said it is something to factor into our expectations.

Do you see what you just did here? You made my point by arguing.

Maybe don't project that he's in the doghouse (since you don't know) if you're not looking for some conflict on the matter.

What if he and TJ agreed mutually late in the year, when it was clear he wasn't going to have the role he was hoping for, that they would limit his games so he could get a redshirt and transfer. But they would keep him dressed in a "break glass in case of emergency" role due to injury or what not and his role would immediately be satisfactory?

Just speculating.

He looked like he still had good body language and attitude on the bench all things considered.
I kind of wonder if they going to redshirt him.

I'm kind of curious as to why he didn't get in vs Colorado, but not enough to start a player name thread about it. There have been some plausible explanations provided, minor injury, transfer, simply likes it at ISU and will stay for his degree.

It was interesting that at halftime of the Indiana-Indianapolis game on espn+, they showed an interview with Watson, discussing, among other things, what he needed to work on to increase his role.

What scholarship athlete who has contributed as a freshman and sophomore all of a sudden is content with not playing 1 minute in a once in a lifetime tournament opportunity?

I seriously doubt he went through all the rigors of TJs practices then when the coaching staff asks him to go in he says " Nah, I'm good, just happy to be here".

Something weird is going on.

He is the one guy that is that long athlete type that can guard the other teams gazelles and rebound against it. Auburn exploited that. The CU coach thought he could, he said in the time out we were slow footed. If there is one weakness on our team it is we do not have that 6'5 to 6'8 long athletic type. Maybe we do not need that to win this year because we are good enough at other things to compensate for not having it. But if we need it, Watson is the guy.
This is what makes me wonder abt it. He is super athletic and we dont have tons of that. He showed last year how useful he could be situationally, mostly defensively but a little on offense too as kind of a smaller Tre King garbage man cutter.

Instead its lots of Heise and even Indrusaitis. Im sure theres a reason, but idk what it is. Hopefully its all good.
