I appreciate Watson, but still not sure why he didn’t transfer. Hed start for a lot of mid major teams. You only get 4 years and he’s going to be done with 3 soon.
What if he and TJ agreed mutually late in the year, when it was clear he wasn't going to have the role he was hoping for, that they would limit his games so he could get a redshirt and transfer. But they would keep him dressed in a "break glass in case of emergency" role due to injury or what not and his role would immediately be satisfactory?

Just speculating.

He looked like he still had good body language and attitude on the bench all things considered.

They have been including him in social media posts, so I doubt he is in the doghouse. Seems like a good team guy.

Something is wrong when Fish and Kelderman get to play but Watson does not.
I wonder if he is trying to keep his games played low enough to preserve his eligibility for a redshirt season. So he would still have two years to play, either here or after a transfer.

Every year there is one guy where the fans ask “why isn’t he playing?”

Tristan Enuruna
Terrence Lewis
Xavier Foster
Omaha
Etc

Sometimes a player just isn’t as good as the other players on the team. Trust the coaches.
Ok but he didn’t play when they emptied the bench either. Something has to be up.

probably like a little injury that they don’t want exacerbate. Might have had a head hit in practice. Just never know. What I do know is that at some point this year we will be talking about him again, he’s popped up every year when we’ve needed him.

Edit: unless he’s trying to redshirt, which is a distinct possibility.

Watson only had a few minutes here and there last season on a team that had less size then this one. I'm not surprised he's not playing, but am surprised he didn't get into the game yesterday.

Any chance he’s redshirting this year? I know he’s played in a game, but can he still redshirt if he’s under a certain amount of games played (or is that only freshman)?

Not in basketball. You are confusing football and basketball redshirt. If you play in one game in basketball you burn it unless you can get a medical waiver, and even then you are only eligible for the redshirt if you play less than a certain amount of games.

Given what I’ve seen from Watson in the past, and on the bench this year, I doubt he’s in the doghouse.

My guess is he’s hurt and/or told the coaches he wants to redshirt to transfer at the end of the season, but wants to stay on the team.

I really liked Watson. I was glad he stuck around in the day and age of transfers.

Has he played at all this year?

Edit: I just looked and he did in the first game. So disregard my post about preserving the redshirt.
