David Sims charged

I really have mixed emotions on this. We need him to have a successful defense. On the other side, we need the young guys to realize this **** cannot be tolerated. I'm glad I'm not PR.

Can we stop with the Iowa comparisons? It is getting ridiculous. No wonder they have the attitudes they do. We have an inferiority complex and it needs to stop.

Wrong, a vast majority of us don't. Its only the vocal minority that you think is everybody....

If more ISU and Iowa fans applied this very simple logic to each other, there wouldn't be nearly as much hatred between fanbases.

100% of voters voting to give him the boot are hok fans hoping he isn't on the field in Iowa City on September 11th. You can take that to the bank.

I personally couldnt care less if he is on the field or not. Im sure the same could be said for the Iowa team and most hawkeye fans as well.

wait...I must have read the thread title wrong. He was only "charged" and not convicted. I'll leave the punishment up to CPR based on what him and Sims discuss. It's likely this will get plea bargained down even further.

A lot of you guys are huge hypocrites. Had this happened with an Iowa player, you all would be outraged at there not being a suspension. You all would want that player to be kicked off the team as soon as the first whisper of the incident happened. I'm ashamed that you cheer for the same team as me.

So true.

Yeah, I'll wait for the facts to be released before deciding. Too many unknowns at this point to pass judgement.

Ok.. this isn't picking on KF, because most coaches do the same, but if we're going by past actions of most college programs, a DUI = 2 games, and this is a majority of the season? seems a little wonky to me.

I don't disagree that a DUI is more severe. However this is essentially the same thing that Dom Douglass did and he got what for all intents and purposes was a one year hammer. I mean you can argue that Sims didn't have anything to do with the actual theft, but plain and simple he stole someone elses money using thier CC.

What I'm saying is this is something that should cost the young man 2-4 games. However, had he been an Iowa player the punishment would have been more severe. It would have been more sever because of recent events involving Iowa players have placed them under more scruitiny than the players of ISU (rightfully so BTW).

Felony vs. Misdemeanor, that is the difference.

Felony and misdemeanor. Big difference between the two. And Ferentz has said that looking back he may have been too harsh on the fraud case with Douglass. If he had to deal with it again, he may not dole out as severe of a punishment.

I'd actually bet that Rhoads was working WITH the county attorney. Kind of coincidental that the charges didn't come out until the day AFTER ISU shows up at Big 12 Media Days and the arraignment lands four days BEFORE ISU Media Day. This thing is going to be done and out of the way prior to CPR meeting with the press. Otherwise, Sims makes that a huge sideshow.

Plea bargain down to guilty of 2nd degree on Monday, Sims runs a bunch, goes on probation, does a bunch of community service and misses either a half game or one whole game. We'll know the whole thing by Tuesday night.

5th degree is better than 2nd degree. In fact 5th Degree is the "best" degree there is.

I've been charged with 5th degree theft. Off the your record in two years. (Still shows up on iowacourts online though) Don't get caught carrying stolen road signs into your apartment. HEHE.

It's a simple misdemeanor. I paid 250 dollar fine is all.

Sims will be fine.

this is worse than getting in a bar fight or something like that, Thats a spur of the moment decision, usually fueled by alcohol.

you have to make a conscious choice to be a thief. Kids getting free room and board, free tuition..run him.

That's accurate. That minority is REALLY vocal and their numbers are therefore exaggerated in perception.

The only distinction I would draw is that coach Rhoads hasn't been around long enough to have any/many of these incidents in his backlog. Had Iowa not had that 18 or 20 month run (or whatever it was) with so many drinking related citations, plus the Everson/Satterfield case, Bowman/Douglas case, and probably a couple others the Clone fans you speak of probably wouldn't even exist.

Bottom line, though, I simply don't care about these legal issues. I care, just not in the way of comparing universities. Similar to how when my then-fiancee would ask if I wanted napkins with purple roses or purple tulips for our wedding and I would say "I don't care" -- I care about the wedding, just not the napkins.
