Looks like he has been moved inside according to the cyclones.tv positional breakdown that they just released.

Hopefully that works out.

If he was redshirted a year and bulked up to 300, then a 6'7 DT would be nice for getting in passing lanes. Maybe they feel he's too slow for DE.

I would love to have Irving redshirt a year. The poor kid was injured both spring sessions right? Worried that he won't hit his true potential.

This is strange, hopefully it works out though. Mitchell Meyers, David Lemke, and Nick Kron better all be ready at defensive end.

Other than the staff feeling comfortable enough with other DEs to move him, I fail to see this as a good sign.

I'll try to take the eternal optimist tack and say that he is doing so well at DE they are trying him at DT as well so that opposing offenses have a hard time scheming against him.

Sorry, it isn't working for me either.

I don't see the issue if he lacks speed on the edge. It's like throwing through a willow tree if he gets his hands up.

I see it as a good sign that a starting DE from a very average D line last year was most likely going to be passed up by someone else(Morrisey).

One has to assume we plan on lining Coe and Irving up in the A gaps to intimidate the opposition.

(I suppose a :jimlad: is needed.)

I'm guessing he will play both positions. The coaches would probably rather he play DE but we are clearly a few bodies short at DT. He's one of the only DE's who has the size to move inside.

I think he is probably not quick enough for DE is my guess, and I don't see this as good or bad news necessarily.

I think our DEs are alright though. Nothing special, but decent players.

If he keeps his pad level down like Burnham says, he will at the very least be able to eat up space and be a handful for opposing olinemen. I think he had trouble getting to the QB from the DE spot. Maybe this will improve our pass rush.
