Cyhawk postgame thread

I’ve been waiting most of my life for Iowa to spend its allotted time out in bad hire purgatory.

The odds are against them repeating the Fry-to-Ferentz transition.
Especially when they don’t need a continuity hire. They need a change hire. That means all new coaches, mass xfers in and out, and a culture change.

I felt like he was saying ISU had been beating themselves with mistakes so Burkle making a play was a good change.

Maybe it was the refs though too although I don't think anything was like KSU 2017 level of bad calls.
No. The later comments from a reporter were “let that linger”; which Campbell agreed with.

Because if anyone focused on it, and asked him to clarify, he’d get in trouble for criticizing the refs.

It was blatantly obvious, especially if you say his reactions during the game.

He especially wasn’t happy after certain ticky-tack fouls, that they refused to call an obvious PI later in the game.

Okay, he was furious on that one.

Couldn’t be happier that we pulled it out yesterday, but if there ever was a year to just absolutely bury them, this was it

One of these years I absolutely want to give them the Hayden treatment. It could've been this year had they not kept us out of the endzone early.

Once again, their defense is stout enough they'll probably be in a lot of games they otherwise have no business being in.

I will say - after that 6 game losing streak where Iowa would beat us playing Ferentz-ball, it's satisfying to return the favor to them and win those games.

Dont want to get ahead of myself, going to enjoy the crap out of this season, and who knows what can happen in the offeason, but...

-Rocco will be back as a senior
-Both RBs will be back as seniors
-Both TEs will be back as seniors
-Every single receiver getting targets back
-Konrardy back
-Bulk of that defense back (albeit a few crucial losses to graduation).
Unless some of these guys with 3 years of college declare for the NFL, or hit the transfer portal for more money.

No, but I would have like to have Campbell starting after Bruce and still coaching today.
Jim Criner shaped our collective personality as a fanbase as much as anyone.

In your scenario we could be the entitled douchebags.

That said, yeah. Not sucking for decades does sound nice.

Punching in one of the two early FGs and connecting one of the longer passes to make the score more like 24-10 (or 3 on some weirdness) would have been fun to see but on the other hand it's on par for how it goes vs. Iowa for about anyone that's not Ohio State.

If you don't stretch the field and loosen things up it's going to come down to like 4 plays.

Iowa fans were that way before Hayden even if they were bad. They were still convinced that they were far and above ISU to a point where they wouldn't play ISU unless it was at Kinnick.

Many of them really don't know that Iowa wasn't even that good under Fry, just decent with like two really good teams if that.

It is going to be glorious. The reasonable ones think basketball has prepared them for what is likely coming. Ha.

100% this. We were very clearly the better team but we still let Iowa “Iowa” us. Combine that with some conservative play calling and I’d say us sneaking out a 3 point win had more to do with us than them.

But in this serious, any win is a good one. Doesn’t matter how ugly. A 3 point win counts the same as a 48 point win. Would have been nice to really stick it to them though.

I have been depressed, sad, frustrated etc. after several ISU losses whether it was an upset, weird loss in Hilton or whatever but have never been just pissed for like 4 days afterward like that game.

Campbell handled himself well after it, but you could tell he was absolutely seething.

Now look at the series history since then.

As currently shown on their depth chart they lose:

- 8 of 11 starters on offense
- 7 of 11 starters on defense.
-Their stud kicker
- Wetjen (Kick/Punt returner)

The vast majority of their offensive and defensive lines gone. That is the bread & butter of Iowa football. They will be breaking in a new quarterback as well. Whoof! I like Iowa State's chances of winning 4 of the last 5 in Kinnick next year.

And blew a huge bag on Gronowsku. No one is going to trust their money with their Collective now.

Mostly all relief from me. We beat a 5-7 Iowa team playing not to lose. It felt like some of our UNI wins. Has no bearing on how we look the rest of the year, just fortunate to not pick up an extra loss.
The absolute-crime-pickup-up-a-flag-on-the-punt bullsh*t changed the entire game. Yes we scored a TD a few drives later but it gave Iowa an absolutely batsh*t unearned spark of hope and got them to settle down. And Mouser most definitely got conservative (a week after he said in an interview that part of his growth as an OC is not reverting to being really conservative). That was the type of game that had 27-3 written all over it and 20-0 at halftime.

I don’t have any relevant pre-Fry memories.

As the sole Cyclone fan on the playground when he arrived that dumb tigerhawk still triggers my fight or flight fight response.

The Big 10 west was made for Ferentz and Ferentz for the Big 10 west. It’s going to be a long time before Iowa has a coach who can stay there for 20 years

I grew up in the thick of Haydenism (80s/90s) but parents etc remember very well how Iowa fans have always been.
